Been there done that. Dumping rocks on the inside of the pond dam for erosion control. I was aware of the danger. Nevertheless, got one front wheel over the dam lip and that's all it took. 3 seconds later the tractor was in the pond! Using 4WD, rear ballast box and slammed on the brakes but those weren't enough to offset the weight of a bucket full of rocks, steep slope, and gravity. Had to call a wrecker to pull it out. Cost $70 and considerable embarrassment.:ashamed:

$70--- still cheaper than $16K for the tractor, or the priceless cost you are to the wife.. embarassment is priceless though.....

Yeah I was very lucky the tractor got stuck in the mud which prevented the engine/electronics from being submerged or the repair bill could have been $7000.

Be careful dumping stuff over banks.. watch the front tires and then keep your foot on the brake...

Dropped a front tire over a bank once, and the wife, step daughter and her boyfriend were all nearby.. Actually had to enlist the boyfriend to drive my truck to help me pull the tractor off the edge.

Embarrassing to the extreme... Wife was actually laughing at me on this one.. being as I am normally so careful with the tractor she could not get over me screwing up here.....

kinda irked me that she was laughing, as I was only an few inches from flipping over that bank....

anyway---

be careful out there....

LOL, not at you, but the situation. I refused to take any money, but I used my excavator to pull a neighbor's CUT out of a pond from where he did the same thing. While I was there, I spread his rock (rip-rap, is that the right name?) for him in about an hour that he was going to take a weekend to do.

Yep, did the same thing myself once; wife had to pull me out with a pickup.

Here is a technique if all else fails, used it a time or two. Run chains diagonally around the rear wheels, load binder helps. Hook long chain to each rear wheel and to anchor point, reverse until you get equal tension then lock diff and the tractor will pull itself out of some really bad stuff as it rides up on the chains as they wind around the tires. For some you can substitute tow straps.

2 things I leaned this winter. When carrying an heaping bucket of snow very high because the pile is very tall if you tip the bucket the wrong way it can dump alot of snow right on top of you.

When clearing the front patio if working close to the front door remember which pedal is reverse and which one is forward, I have two very large divits in the brick mold.
