Top Gear Toughest truck

Dont forget the boat anchor trailer that was hanging up on the rocks behind the truck.

Aaron Z

Yea, not too smart trying that with the trailer while the GM and Dodge did not. Again, it comes down to the driver.

Just got done reading the Shoot Out posted above. Hands down to GM for learning some things and making the HD what it is. Seems they have finally overcome many of its short comings. Actually the Ford and GM were very close on all points other than braking. I am really surprised because Ford had been known for its brakes for years but they have not addressed this issue as power and weight have increased. Hope they listen.

They finished just as I expected with the GM and Ford being very close but the GM edging it out slightly and the Ram pulling up the rear in a real test by a trusted source.

Was that the US version of he show? or the British version? I can barely take the US version. They are just not as funny as the Brits.

Eddie

I agree, I love the Brit version. Even when they visit the US.

That show is a joke. Its not based on facts, just opinion. Ford wins this week and Chevy next week. The following week Dodge gets the nod.

I love the show but it has nothing to do with which is better no matter if they are testing trucks or station wagons. It more about beating the **** out of stuff and have fun doing it. Its which guy can crack more jokes, give the others a hard time, and more importantly who does the most advertizing during the show.

It was the GM that pulled the telephone poles and the Ford that pulled the 140 ton train.

Chris

Its called entertainment-they claim to be nothing more. I would love to try the stuff they do-it would be fun. I would love to drive and race the fastest million dollar super car in Abu Dabi or race to the Alaskan glaciers with older pickup trucks, or even cross the desert with a 4 x 4 and camper in tow. Its just fun as **** to watch. They claim to be nothing more and I think the Brit version is funnier than the US or Australian version.

Top Gear US right? TGUS sucks. Most annoying show ever?

Everybody knows that the Toughest Truck according to the only Top Gear that matters (TGUK) is the Toyota Hilux.

So tough it can fall from a skyscraper being demoed, submerged in the ocean, had a caravan dropped on it and just all around abused; And it still ran under its own power. So tough it was the only vehicle they honoured by placing it on a plinth.

Killing a Toyota part 1 - Top Gear - BBC - YouTube

Show me a Ford, Chev or Dodge that can take 1/10 of that punishment

You can't honestly believe that right? They were just joking around dude.

I don't really care for the US version of TG. They just don't have the chemistry and half of what they do is just what the Brits already did. The one show they did that I did watch most of is when they bought cheap trucks and went to Alaska to test them. But they usually favor the big three.

As for Toyota I'm sold. When they decided the frame on my Tundra was too rusty they replaced it free, an 11 year old truck and they replaced the frame. A guy i work with has a year older GMC and his frame is so bad it will not pass inspection. Good luck getting GM to do anything. I just wish Toyota would get into the 3/4 ton (and even the 1 ton) market.

Well said! Both wrt US Top Gear, and re Toyota.

Admittedly, Toyota's trucks lack the tow/carry capacity of the Big 3's biggest trucks, but I can live with that. Both the Tacoma and the Tundra do what I need, and the better reliability and resale are great.

Latest one is an '11 4Runner for my wife. It still shows its Tacoma lineage in a few ways. Couldn't get her to go for the Sequoia. Too big, she said.

If this 4Runner ever dies (unlikely) I'll be smarter about it next time and have the Toyota dealership put 4Runner badges on the Sequoia before she sees it. She'll just say, "oh - look at all the nice stuff on the new 4Runners".

Now, if only Toyota would import a Hilux with a small turbo diesel... I'd dearly love that! :licking:

They did a similar show but with older models in the alaskan wilderness. The trucks were a 70s model ford 250 4x4, early 80s chevy 4x4 and a 90s dodge 4x4. It was funny and entertaining, worth the watch.

This is what I am saying also. What red blooded American Boy would not love to tear the heck out of something that is not yours and better yet get to be on TV where all your friends could see you do it and get paid for while doing so.

Also, I would have laid the carpet across the road and driven on it rather than flip the truck, make a carpet track or make the plank contraption.

Aaron Z

X2 That whole "not touching the asphalt" thing was ridiculous and contributed to the lunacy of the show! But you are right there was plenty of carpet there to lay across the road for all 3 to drive across!

TG English version took a hi lux to the north pole, too bad they are not available here.

i know its "entertainment" thanks. Look no further then the Tesla controversy.

Around the world the Hilux has a deserved reputation for being bulletproof. From "rebels" in Lybia to military in Afghanistan. To trekking across ice up to the north pole.

But the fact is the truck was beat HARD. And it still ran. I have a Tacoma that was beat hard and it STILL runs. I also have a F150 thats never been beat and is a flaming POS.
