Should the deck still lower some when the height knob is set to TOP? I would be happier if it remained all the way up. This is where my 54" deck sits when I lower the 3pt hitch and the knob is set to TOP.

Mine drops, at most, a half inch before holding steady. Looks like some adjustments are in order.

That deck looks like it needs leveled. Manual should tell you how. Actually, I would first check to make sure all the links are attached. It almost looks like one of those rear pins isn't attached to the link. Also knob in the photo doesn't look like it is set to top.

It's as far as it will turn. Can you point me to instructions on how to adjust ?

Goofy question but which way are you turning the height knob to get to the top setting? On my BX, while turning the knob one direction I cannot get to the top position. TBH though I cannot remember whether it is clockwise or counter clockwise.

Clockwise. Deck drops a whole lot more if I turn it all the way CCW.

I found this on adjusting to ensure deck stays up:

"The heght adjustment "Top" position holds the deck in the fully raised position regardless of the 3 point hitch position. Raise the deck completely and turn the height adjustment to "Top". If the knob won't turn to "Top", do the following:
Looking at the rear of the tractor, just inside the left rear tire is a linkage that controls the lift. There will be a gold colored bolt that faces rearward. Loosen the lock nut on the bolt and screw the bolt in one turn. Raise the mmm all the way and see if the knob will turn to the "Top" position. If not, turn the bolt another turn and try again. It shouldn't take more than a few turns of the bolt unless something else is out of adjustment."

I think the whole deck needs leveling. Not my specialty, for sure...

So I adjusted the aforementioned bolt, and, she went into top. Then past top clockwise to 0,1... all the way around. Not sure if that is "normal ops" but the deck stays put now. Now onto adjusting this bad boy.

Perfectly normal.

May I ask where you found that instruction? I have the same problem and I couldn't find anything in the operators manual.

I did not find it in there myself. There were/are several older discussions about it, the notes I posted came from the orange tractor talk site as it was the most concise explanation. It would be handy to have it in a sticky note on here; tricks/tips for the BX series... or maybe it's common knowledge. I've had my tractor since Fall 2010 and didn't know it would even stay all the way up!

Here is a link to an older TBN Discussion(s) on deck adjustment which mentions the TOP position. It sounds like Harry from BXpanded provided the comments I quoted in my reply above (PS to BXpanded: I am going to order one of those 'Piranha Tooth Bars' one of these days SOON !!! :

It took three full turns on the bolt, and then it worked just as you described. Thanks!

Thanks neighbor! I've been fighting this for weeks and your tip worked perfectly.

it looks like that your knob is set to 4, not to top. When you are sitting in the seat, turn the knob counter clockwise until the black arrow is pointing down at the word top. But the deck has to be raised all of the way up in order to do so.

yup, what they said. I made the mistake once of trying to adjust when not at top first too.
