Your right, I just checked on some prices for individual wrenches. I guess I'll go with the same set you bought.
Did they work fine? I know you get what you pay for when it comes to tools, but if they worked fine then that's all I'll need. I don't know if you know this or not but I don't exactly do a whole lot of hydraulic work

They will work fine for hydro fittings. Just don't try to tighten up a trailer ball or something silly like that. You'll end up using them again in the future. Just don't lend them out....they'll get jacked up.
I haven't done any hydro work in years.....but now I have a tractor so I'll be doing Hydro work again.
Did you order hose protection for your hoses?

In your build thread a lot of people were giving you some confusing information.
I can understand why you have some apprehension about the install.

I drew many schematics of the hydro plumbing including each fitting description.
That was smart of you to use most all JIC fittings.
You can see when I came out of the spool valve I used long and short SAE>JICM then JIC 90* fittings.

A couple more tips:
DO NOT USE TEFLON tape on any pipe thread fittings. Use a high quality pipe thread sealant (Liquid/paste) and let it cure at least overnight.

SAE/ORB fittings, make sure you lube the o'rings with hydro fluid before installing.

Get some red, green, white, blue electrical tape to label your lines.

Great tips Paul and thanks again.
The reason I want to start a new thread about my install is because that one go me so confused and I ended up switching my plan around anyways. I also looked at Teg's thread a lot and that one helped me as well, I'm not too good at explaining what I'm doing but I'm good at taking a lot of pictures so I'll do that.
I plan on posting everything I used if I can keep it all together!

This thread of yours has been extremely helpful to me. Before I started this project (going all the way back to early spring when I installed the 3rd function valve) I had no clue about hydraulics. Now I think I understand them good enough to install my own valve, but still don't know a lot. :D

I didn't
But I just ordered those wrenches

Paul,
I don't remember exactly how much it cost but I think it was right around $1,500.
I got mine from WR LONG along with his 3rd function valve kit as well. I know the skidsteer one is cheaper and probably even more durable, but I would recommend the one I got over that one.
The one you posted has an opening of 34" and the WR LONG one is 44" I also believe that the tines are longer on the LONG grapple (OBG-2) which with the combination of the wider opening, will allow you grab a much bigger pile of brush.
This will also lower your breakout force since the lever arm will be longer, so if you were going to be digging up a lot of huge boulders or stumps then it may be a consideration, but thats about it, plus you have your backhoe for that:thumbsup:

The tine spacing looks the same at 9". The weight is a bigger factor, it's 110 lbs heavier than the one I have, and the one I have is 64" rather than 60".
I would like to add tines between each tine and make the spacing 4.5" because I use it a lot for firewood. I like the width of the one I have because I can carry a lot of firewood in one load.

I can't see you being able to do any damage to the LONG grapple if you use it like it's meant for. I beat on mine pretty bad and I have a heavier more powerful loader than you, and I have yet to damage it.
(Note: my father was using it to drag a huge log and tried turning while backing and bent the last 5" of one of the grapple corners, he didn't realize the incredible lever arm he was putting on that grapple) If you use with a little common sense (sorry dad:D) then you can't hurt it.

What are your main intentions to use the grapple for? I say "main" because you will use it for a million things you had no intention of. Since I use mine a lot for firewood and clearing brush by lowering the tines in the ground (2-3" or so) and driving forward, as well as picking up small multiple stumps, then I got the wider 64" grapple which helps a lot. HOwever keep in mind if your main intentions are to move brush piles, you won't notice too much of a difference with the width of the grapple. You may be happy with the smaller, cheaper, lighter single grapple of the 48" he makes. I personally am very glad I have the wider one, but for a lot of people the smaller one will work just as good, and is also a lot lighter.

Please let me know if you have any detailed questions about the grapple, I love talking about it and will try to give an unbiased opinion of any others.

As a side note, I've talked with nelson 3 times now with questions i've had, and he is always willing to spend a lot of time on the phone with me, and I've never had an issue getting a hold of him. His customer service really impressed me!

Thanks for the info Piston
My first use for the grapple would be grubbing all of the roots, rocks and smaller stumps at my mountain property.
I rented a CAT 953 track loader with a 6way bucket to clear the property, so all of the big stumps are gone already.
I just need to use the tractor to get all of the small stuff. Do you think I can do the grubbing with the scaifiers on the box blade and then use the rake to rake it all up?
One of my hobbies is fabricating so I may just build one. I can buy a nice plasma cutter for less than the cost of a new grapple. I can't imagine the raw steel would cost more than $300 two cylinders $200 hoses $50 and I end up with a nice plasma cutter.

I can't answer the question about grubbing with the scarifiers from personal experience, but that is what I'm going to try as well.
It looks like your a few steps ahead of me in clearing your land but we're doing similar things. I am planning on clearing the larger trees with my JD 410 backhoe and hoping it will be sufficient enough. After the grunt work I will be smoothing things over with the box blade.
If you still have a lot of brush work to do, I really recommend building/buying your grapple sooner rather than later
I honestly can't speak enough of how helpful the grapple has been. It is by far the most productive tool/implement I've ever purchased (not just for the tractor, but in general)

What model number loader do you have?
Try and search for a installation manual for the loader.
I'm trying to locate an electronic version of mine to show you.

Hey Paul, I've got an L3800 with FEL that I am planning on putting a TNT on and probably add a valve for PB too - post hole digger, etc.

I was wondering how you've liked living with the placement of your valves after this time?
Do you find it ok to work the TNT while looking back at the implement and reaching up to the valves?
Do you wish you'd have put them somewhere else?
Is there anything you'd change or do differently looking back?

Also, do you think one could get a more stealthy install by using two 2-way valves instead of the larger 4-way?

I am putting 3" wheel spacers on today and have about half a mind to widen the fenders out to match the new tire track at some point. If I end up doing that, I'd have more room between the seat and RH fender to put something down in there. Ideally, I'd like the sticks to be in the area of the PTO lever (on inside of the RH fender) so they'd be right there while sitting sideways in the seat, looking back at the implement working and adjusting the TNT.
