k0ua--

The 5545 comes with the SSQA (ha! I'm learning!). It also comes with telescoping lower 3point hitch. I will have to investigate the hitch more to see exactly what that means regarding the links and stabilizers.

The 5545 has a "constant mesh with forward/reverse synchro shuttle transmission."

OK all to the good. Are you ok with the synchro shuttle? Is this the tranny you wanted? By the way this is one heck of a big powerful tractor you are considering for your first tractor.

jeff9366, a six foot cutter is barely narrower than the tractor, which is 72.5" with agricultural tires. The model I looked at had industrial tires. I do not know how wide they are. I will be working mostly on a rocky surface. However, there is some looser stuff on both sides of the ridge. Stick with industrial or go with agricultural tires?

From Post #10 it seems you are working with an excellent dealer. Discuss the R1/R4 tire choice with the dealer, who will be more familiar than I with conditions, specifically duration of mud, where you are.

R/Cs leave a lot of stubs (usually called stobs in tractor-speak) after brush is cut. R4 tires are more puncture resistant, but you need traction in mud conditions to work.

Back over the net to you ~~~~~~~~~~~

I'll see if a 5' cutter is available.

Thanks for those videos. The Ratchet Rake is quite an accessory!

James--

We are east of you. Do you know where the Rockbridge trout farm and resort is? Google it. Our land is about two and half miles north of there. Ava is the closest "major" town. In any case, you know the type of land we have. The portion I will tackle with the tractor is high on the ridge. I'm also going to get a rock bucket to collect rocks for building material.

The 5545 has "Category 1 and 2 with telescopic stabilizers." I have no clue as to what Category 1 and 2 mean.

dickfoster and jeff9366 and k0ua and otherpinz and Jabonee--

I just returned from the dealer. The 4025 has become a 5545 4wd shuttle with FEL and backhoe. More money, but it is a bigger tractor with a few more HP (43hp).

dickfoster, thank you for the graple/3rd function info. I discussed it with the dealer. It is the only way to go with a grapple.

k0ua, I'll investigate the rake options and make the brush horizontal before hitting it with the rotary cutter. I suppose I would have figured that out with a little experience. It is nice to know beforehand.

otherpinz, At this time, I'm upgrading to the 5545. What do you think?

Jabonee, the last thing I did today while at the dealer's was to have the owner take me through the service department. The service area consists of about six drive through bays. A lot of work was going on; a Ford was in a bay with the engine torn down for an overhaul and a Mahindra was in another bay being examined for a leak in the head. The shop looked good and well-used.

I'm also going to get a 22 foot H&H Speedloader Tiltbed electric tilt bed trailer and upgraded axles to 14,000lb torsion and with a 10,000lb Super Winch. (I wonder if I can get them to stick a 12,000lb Warn on it instead?)

I'm learning a lot and thank you for the help.

I'd go with the R4s in your case, especially with the backhoe. You get your choice of tires at no cost with a new tractor.

Make sure that dealer is gonna support you. For example what is your part? What do they do as a normal course of business and new tractor sales? Do they deliver or do you have to pick it up and transport it for warranty work etc. etc. etc. My dealer filled the tires, welded a hook and shackle mount to the front bucket, delivered the tractor and just picked it up for warranty work yesterday. All for no charge and he's 50 miles away. Oh yeah he still owes me a new red Mahindra hat when he gets them in. I also asked for a got the service manual such as it is. How long as he been doing this?

No one here is likely to fault you for getting a bigger tractor as long as you need it. They may envy you but they won't fault you. LOL

BTW from the pic on the web site the loader looks like it is a KMW (Kansas Machine Works) unit so likely the backhoe is too.
