It could enjoy a resurgence depending on the politics of the day.

Quite so. I have been in the nuclear power industry for the past 30 years. I worked daily in the plants for 10 of those years as an operator. Of all the risks and hazards associated with working in and around nuclear plants, radiation exposure was dead last on my list of things to be concerned about.

Like I said before coal is the answer it's cheap and a lot of the plants use the by product for other things.Nuclear has to find places to dump the spent waste.

Forget nuclear what happens if there another melt down? You don't have to worry with coal and coal has the btu to power a whole city! Do yourself a study on coal before you open your mouth.

Wow. I work for a utility that uses both coal, nat gas, hydro and nuclear in vast quantities. Coal is filthy unless you spend billions to clean up the emissions.

Why don't YOU do a study on nuclear before you open your mouth? You come on here and try to spread lies about nuclear power then defend yourself by saying "That's just what somebody told me!" Ok, fine, you are ignorant about nuclear power because you only know what others tell you but then you are ready to fire away about the virtues of coal. Oh, wait, not really, you just say "coal is the answer".

Yep, coal IS the answer if the question is "what's the dirtiest form of electrical power?" or perhaps "which form of electrical production causes the greatest exposure to ionizing radiation?" (which is coal due to the radioactive byproducts of burning it) or perhaps "which form of electrical production is responsible for the largest number of deaths in the US?"

To each of those questions, Coal IS the answer.

Now, I am not against coal (in spite of its obvious drawbacks). It's plentiful and relatively cheap. With reasonable management practices, its drawbacks can be minimized. We should not be closing down coal plants just to replace them with nat gas, it's just a waste of capital. Having a blend of sources protects the availability of power and lowers supply risks throughout the system.

I respect you Jack, but you're out of your depth here.

Yeah you said coal is good for peeking units?.......really I have been a union boil maker for 14years and seen all the things we put on coal fire boilers because of the EPA. Like scrubbers, and SCR making coal a lot cleaner so now when it goes out of the stack it's steam now not smoke like in years past. I don't think I'm out of my death here YOU JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT COAL and what the boiler maker did to clean it up.
