I believe the President said something to the effect that he is not banning coal... only that it will be so expensive no one will want to use it...

He was a little more direct. He said you would go bankrupt - implication was because of government regulation. Another push toward the Libertarian Party.

That sounds like him. Cheap energy is beneficial to any country, but that wisdom is lost on Hussein.

I just don't understand why any leader would want high energy prices unless it is about control or hedging a bet...

There is nothing criminal about producing coal...

What's next... pictures of coal miners as public enemy number 1?

Maybe it's been said. Ontario closed all coal fired plants. We now enjoy some of the highest energy costs in the developed world. Now that electricity is at sky high prices, they are proposing we get off natural gas and heat with electricity. Good thing I still have my baseboard heaters from the 70s. Criminal behavior or sound (environmental) long term planning?

I always imagined they shovelled coal into these boilers like you would a steam engine, only on a larger scale. Interesting post.

Not true. Your rates are totally comperable to rates in other areas.
Your rates in comparison to CalEd. Other examples would be similar

I don't think coal power is dead, but the current 1880 model of a boiler turbine and a mile of ancillary flue devices is. Even in the 1940, they had tractors running on gasifiers from coal carried onboard. Gasification can cut down on the fly ash carry over, the acid output and increase efficiency by duing away with the boiler and burning the gas directly in a turbine or reciprocating engine.
