Tow Ratings, New Vehicle

Chevy Trailblazers have a tow rating of around 6000lbs. I've got one with the 4.3L engine,

You must have the only one with a 4.3. Trailblazers, 02 and later Bravadas, and Envoys were only available with a 4.2 L6, a 4.8 and 6.0 V8 [SS package]. The 4.3 V6 was offered in the S chassis SUV up until 2001, after that the switch was made to the Trailblazer and the 4.2 was the standard engine.

This list wont include the most current vehicles.....geesh. (I know, I'm hard to satify....but 94? :laughing

Seems they do offer pretty good info on regular size pickups....but when it comes to cross-overs or medium SUV's....they bury the information.....IMO. I know I can find 'em all via brochures and such.....just seems that these companies (Edmunds et al) could make it easier.

It's current through at least 2008, last time I checked (click vehicles, then tow ratings>more). I haven't looked for anything newer myself. If you are looking for current (new) models, then the manufacturers websites or brochures are the best resource, generally. This is the most comprehensive listing I have seen in one place.

It seems like now if you want to tow more then 5000lbs you need 3/4ton truck. You can do it with less, but just barely.

What? Have you been listing to LB? Any current full size SUV or 1/2 ton will tow in the 9,000# to 10,000# range.

One thing to remember is that the newer trucks have plenty of towing power, probably way more than they can control safely. If you are going to pull 8-10 thousand lbs. with a half ton truck the brakes will not stop what the truck will pull. Or not stop it easily, so use trailer brakes.

To add to my list, the Jeep Liberty with the V6 3.7l can tow up to 5,000lbs and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander can tow up to 7,400lbs with the V8 5.7l.
