Why dont you have the dealer bring the tractor to you?

Mostly it will be towed fairly short distances. Mainly in flat areas. I just talked with the down at the local trailer supply store and laid all of my weight out he said I would be fine in the 6000# range with the truck. As a rule of thumb they build about 40% more capacity into them than they are rated. I don't plan on taking it long distances, 10-20 miles at the most usually. Thanks for all the tips and ideas. I feel better about things now. I will leave the Chihuahua at home and not eat until after I get home. Thanks again, I am sure I will have other questions upon delivery.

Thats the plan, I will be transporting it on occasion to help friends and family around as well as is the curse I am sure all tractor owners bear. If you have a tractor then your neighbors, friends and family don't need one...

:eek::eek: No chance that that even is remotely related to the truth.

In fact I can't believe that he didn't burst into flames right there in front of you.

Soxfan, Something else you will need to do is check with your insurance company. You will probably have to have insurance on the tractor if you take it off of your property and also be sure the tractor is covered while being transported on the trailer. These are a couple things I encountered with my new tractor and trailer to be covered while doing the favors for family and friends. Huey

I totaled a new Toyota Tundra and a borrowed dealer's trailer with brakes (plus a new epensive brake control) and had only $800.00 damage to my brand new Kubota L5030 tractor. The tractor snapped the tie downs, come off the trailer when the trailer took control of the truck, jack knifed, took us across the road. The tractor rolled 180 degrees in soft mud and landed on all fours. This all happened within two miles from home into a 180 mile trip to my farm. The Lord blessed us that day as my wife only received a bruise on her arm. No one was killed but could have been.

I promised the wife to only transport the L5030 on a hired roll back from that point forward. I transport my much smaller John Deere and BX2350 but will leave the heavier hauling to other, more qualify people. It only takes one mistake to change our life. We were quite fortunate that day.

If in doubt, chek other options..............

Wow, glad to hear you came out unharmed. That is spooky. I will definately get some chains for tie downs for the limited amount of towing I will be doing. I will also see what I can do about transporting the tiller in the truck bed when I use it as gordon21 suggested. That will keep me under the limit. Thanks.

Soxfan,

First off, with the truck you have, the solution is obvious. Take the attachement and maybe the bucket separately. That will shave off 1300-1400 pounds.

Next, puting the weight in the bed won't save you. Check the Gross Combined Vehicle weight. You will find that the weight of the truck and ONE person at ~180 pounds subtracted from the GCVW gives the towing capacity. Add any other weight and the towing capacity shrinks.

If you are only going 10-20 miles, I would just drive it. The time to load the tractor, the worry about the small truck being overloaded and the hassle of towing is probably not worth it. The tractor goes 15 mph, so you are talking about an hour to an hour and a half ride. Just remember to keep it in 2wd so you don't skuff up the tires and wear them fast.

Sosxfan, If you do decide to try it don't drive over 45.

I would tend to agree with that viewpoint. There IS a safety factor built into the rating but that's before something actually breaks, not necessarily before your trailer preceedes you down a hill or pulls your truck into a ditch.
