Hi,very interesting project. How much do those babies weigh? How do they work driving thru mud/snow?Do you tend to sink down or do they support the tractor better in the mud and snow?I was thinking of something similar but not sure if i'll have the fender clearance.

Looks like it would be a bumpy ride with those tracks. The traction difference must be pretty substantial too.

I have been in Alaska since last April so I have been away from computers. to answer you about a bumpy ride, actually they are smooth as the tire flexes and takes the pump of the pads coming down out. The traction and floatability is highy increased. They make no noise as the tire keeps them tight. They are a heavy, but you don't notice that at all except for enhanced stability. The tractor is not carrying them like added on weight. Being they are on the tires, there is no added stress on the axles, no different than adding calcium to the tires.

Look at this attachment:

In the 50's Zetor made tracks of two rubberised steel cables with beams clamped inbetween them.

They were tightened by the additional mid axle, that is spring loaded lengthwise and in height. (otherwise the front wheels will come loose when you drive over a hill....

These versions were called "polopasovy"

They still use tracks shown in the last picture for collecting maple syrup in the spring up here.

thank you for the welcome.
oh yes, plenry of stories, it was a great time and the folks up there were some of the nicest people I have ever met.
I lived in Palmer and worked in Ankorage with a couple of stints to Fairbanks and Noth Pole.
I'm looking forward to getting back up there. Where else can you park your trailer and go have a burger and get back to find moose tracks around your rig, and that is in town.

I'm still hoping to see a picture of these "road warrior" tracks.

here you go. I didn't button them together, but you can get the idea by these pics. There is a smaller set for the front and I always widen out the tires to give me fender and turning room when I put them on for real. As you can see the tractor takes on a whole new attitude.
