On my BB7510 the axle lock has to "catch" in some sort of "pin in hole" arrangement. When I push the pedal down I can feel it when it engages, the pedal drops a little further. It seems that it takes up to 1/2 of a full rotation of the axle in some cases before it catches.

Looking at the parts manual there is a collar with 2 "dogs" on it that slides into 2 slots when you push the axle lock in. I always try to stop before pushing the axle lock then move slowly until I feel it engage.

I use mine a lot when pushing large brush piles and trees.

Since Hurricane Rita was still a Category 2 hurricane when it went directly over Jasper, TX 2 weeks ago I have been pushing a lot of trees and brush for the last few days.

Finally got electricity back on at 8:30 this morning. Some others are probably still 2 weeks away from getting power back on.

Bill, I thought you were just too busy to be on the net since Katrina. I magine you went through alot of fuel for a genny...and your tractor.

I was reading an operators for a green tractor . It states That you should not engage diff lock while on asphalt or concrete. Diff lock will increase turning radius. Do not engage diff lock or turn with the diff lock engaged while operating machine at high speed or on slopes. So, if you aren't on asphalt or concrete, not driving fast while turning or not turning on a slope, it's ok to use the diff lock. Even while turning on soft gound. At least with a green tractor

About the only time I have to get on the computer is before daylight and after dark!

Fortunately, the Kubota is fuel stingy because there is no diesel to be bought right now since most stations hae no electricity. I hope that changes today and tomorrow.

3 local gas stations have been open on generator power so gas has not been a problem except for the cost. We have been using about $30 worth per day when we normally use about $30 worth a week.

BTW, I borke the plastic cover for the instrument panel yesterday when a tree I wa carrying hit another tree and fell off the loader and all the way down to the steering column. Cracked the plastic cover but no other damage. I will try to get some pictures of the stuff I have been cutting and moving.

Let me see if I have this straight. When you make a turn without the traction lock engaged you’re inside wheel turns slower then you’re outside wheel right? But when you have your traction lock engaged you’re inside wheel turns at the same speed as you’re outside wheel. If this is true this would explain why my inside wheel was tearing up the grass as the wheel is spinning at the same speed as the outside wheel?? Also if the above is true I can see where damage would happing if this was on a hard surface(cement)beacuse there is no give /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The manuals say not to go fast and stay off hills because of the steering, the tractor wants to go straight with both wheels locked in place.

As far as damage to the tractor on hard pavement, I would probably not do it unless I had to. The axles, gears and such should be plenty strong to handle the stress, the weak link is of course the locking pin, this is where the damage will occur if there is any.

If I did any damage what would be a sign?? would i here a noise?

A total breakage would mean the diif lock wouldn't work anymore, probably everything working fine with the sheered pin(or dogs, not sure of the exact setup) laying in the bottom of the gearbox posing no threats.

But as others mentioned, you did no harm and I would not give it another thought..

But would it make a noise of any sort if damage accrued or would it just stop working. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
