Tractor addiction - wife abandonment - Guilt

I am a car nut. I have been doing forum and email stuff on cars, and motorcycles, since I was a grad student and using Unix based Usenet news groups (late 80's early 90's) for that. I have modified and semi-restored some cars, including designing supercharger setups for cars, etc.

Since my wife and I bought this property a year ago, I think I have spent more time looking at, reading about, and thinking about tractors than I have cars and motorcycles. I am almost to the point that I am content to just "enjoy" my cars and motorcycles as is, and spend my "free" time thinking about new attachments, figuring out how to justify a backhoe for my B3030, and making custom implements and widgets for my tractor. My property came with a semi-beat up Case-Ingersoll 1991 4120PS tractor with a 60" hydraulic mower deck that was/is seized and needs a lot of expensive parts and work. I had planned to sell that tractor. However it still sits here, I am thinking about fixing the mowing deck to use as a "trim tractor" (would prefer a 48" deck, but whatever), and keeping it around to pull a cart/wagon to use with the big tractor. My son also likes to drive it around, and it is basically "free".

I have been considering a BX1850 or similar as a trim tractor as well, but I am not sure how to handle that, and justify it to my wife.

And as I sit here with my Coffee on a hot Sunday morning, I am recovering from recent minor surgery (just a hernia repair, probably from being stupid) and thinking about all of the things I could be outside doing if I was feeling a bit better. So instead, I sit here reading the forum, and looking at weld-on hooks and hitting craigslist for possible cheap local implements for sale.

Disease?

Most definitely...

:D

Hello,I know about hernias,I had the patch put in a few years ago. My tractor is at dealers for a couple of days, first service and some small repairs, adjustments. Told them to call me when done,I don't want to rush them, have a Freightliner in another shop for clutch replacement at the same time. My wife is usually the one who takes the tractor for long periods of time, she hasn't got to the new one yet. Old tractor had 500 hours in two years. Now if I could get her to wash, grease and touch up the scratches between uses .....Maybe not,I wouldn't get a chance to see it.......Did you mention coffee? Take mine regular with two splenda. plowking

I guess every addict has his/her own story...
for me once I had purchased every concieviable attachment my 30 acres could use I went after more power. I think I need a Dozer and a trackhoe to build that pond in the horse pasture I always wanted.....;)

Also, you'll note that the sign of a true tractorhaulic, is still cruising craigslist and ebay for tractors after buying 2 tractors and a lawn tractor in the space of 2 months.

I purchased the first B7100 in mid may, the G1800S (4-wheel steer lawn tractor), and then the B7100HST two weeks ago. Yes, my wife thinks I'm crazy.

In my own defense, the first B7100 is up for sale (it is gear-drive, after 20 hrs, I wanted an HST).

umm, I don't do that. BTW, is denial a sign?

I must admit I am not a tractorholic:) However, I find myself reading this forum almost every day. The weekends are spent at various lots kicking tires and spying on different implements trying to figure out how I could use them on my place.
It's Ok I am not in denial:) I just need more free time to work through this. My friends keep trying to get me to attend the tractorholic meetings but I keep telling them that I am OK and I can stop at any time.:D They tell me that this is a day to day thing... you just have to get through it one day at a time.

My 5203 is Gus, the 2320 is Deets, the LT 133 is Pea, and the little JD walk behind is Newt. I am looking for Woodrow now--trying to figure out how to afford a 5425 and what in the world I could use it for. No addiction for me.

As long as you tractor with one other person...then it is considered socially acceptable...:D

I have the early stages of the addiction, TBN daily+ since November, new (to me) tractor in January, rear blade in February, trailer hitch receiver on bucket in April, pneumatic grease gun in May, toothbar and canopy in June, plan on ordering TnT next week, working on converting mech thumb to hydraulic. Worst part... wife knows how much I enjoy my tractor and she ENCOURAGES me to go out and play, also she doesn't start dinner until I come in for the night!!! :) :D This could get ugly!! :D :D
PS-- She is a KEEPER!!
