Tractor- An Expensive Toy, ...until the big one hits

My humble BX-24 has pulled us through thick and thin. We have a quarter-mile of driveway to keep clear, and I'm putting in an orchard slowly but surely. The rains this summer (what summer?) demanded hours of trenching to divert and drain the water.

Yes, it sinks, but that's a rite of passage. Our RTV-900 has a winch and pulls her out nicely.

The BX-24 may have been a bit small, but she earns her keep every day. There is no way we could live out here without a tractor.

We got hammered here last weekend, some areas got as much as 22". My billing for site relocation and removal of snow, was twice as much as my billing for plowing the main event! I hauled my machine to 3 sites, all in the same town, worked 16 hours and billed enough to cover my winter payments jan-march!

Wife's stars were street lights until we met,and now she likes country.

Mrs. never thought to much of tractors until one heavy snowfall w/difting snow which follow Febuary 09,Mrs. hook up the plow and went at it...she plow off places I never thought of..she was hook..thought I was going to have to hide the key so I could get some plow time.

Shorty aftwards Mrs. said we need bigger tractor..okay:),so off we went tractor shopping for another Kubota and decided on another B,Mrs. call me at work said dealer going to deliver tractor this afternoon :) what a surprise when I saw what was setting on flat bed:eek: she decided something bigger and more "thingies"..long as she happy also safer what the heck.

Gotta say that x-city gal got nack for todays tractor, also keeping the dealership on there toes. :)

I got my first (and only) tractor, a Kubota B 8200, in 2003. I needed something to clear the 750' of sloping drive that takes us to the paved lane (that a neighbor plows). Plus, I had a lot of wooden fence posts to replace, so I justified it and the optional post hole auger. It was delivered just after a 27" snowfall... I had borrowed a snow blower to cut a path down the drive, and I walked out to meet the seller with my "new" 1987 tractor. I learned to operate it clearing that 750' drive. It is located between two woods, so I did a lot of loading snow in the bucket, backing up to find enough room to dump it, and on and on. I realized I needed power steering that day. Since then, whenever we get serious snow, I clear our lane, and the elderly neighbors', and anyone else's who lives close by and is stuck with hand shoveling. I have turf tires, so I am limited by traction to how much snow the rear blade can push aside, but I'd be stuck without it. Fortunately, here in Maryland heavy snows aren't all that common.
