Tractor Brands Market Share

The whole argument about dealer networks is a bit of a self-fulfilling situation. If people avoid them because lack of dealers, the dealers will continue to turn over. If people buy the best value, then the dealer networks will follow. I'd like to see TYM solidify the networks by doing cross-branding so the dealers sell both TYM and Branson. In my dream scenario, a dealer like Big Tex would acquire a handful of dealerships in the region. Most maintenance, parts, etc. would be in the satellite stores and major work and less common parts would be at the main location. Any more than about 5 dealerships and it turns into an unresponsive mess like United around here.

"
TARGETING NICHE MARKET IN US

Won said the company is targeting a niche market of 20-30 horsepower compact tractors to expand its share in the North American market.

“We plan to raise our market share in the US to over 20% from the current 16% through aggressive marketing promotions and financial assistance,” he said."

I’m reading this differently.

They’re not claiming they currently have 16% of the market share in the US.
They simply want to raise their company market share by 4% in the 20-30HP range within the US market.

The article speaks of the dominance by John Deere and Kubota in this segment of the US market.

I could be wrong.

Not clear whether he meant overall market share or just the 20-30 HP mentioned in previous paragraph.

Either way, it's a pretty good foothold in the US market.

If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.

If achieved, this might take Korean produced tractors, all brands, all engines, PRIMARY BRANDS and PRIVATE LABEL BRANDS combined, from 10% of the USA compact tractor market in units to 11% or 12% of the USA compact tractor market.

With the USA Fed raising interest rates to combat inflation the USA dollar should rise in value against most foreign currencies, making imported, foreign-produced products cheaper.

Okay, after reading a article from The Korea Economic Daily I am not sure what category Kioti is using to calculating their market share. This article was written in September so could be some speculation on the final unit sales in US and Canada.

However, they claim to have had 10,000 units sold mid year and projected to have over 20,000 units sold by the end of 2021. If they achieved their goal they would have 8.4% of the market if under 40HP is used.

If we look at under 100HP they would have a market share of 6.3%.

This is based on the AEM report for units sold in the US and Canada. Either way it appears Kioti has come a long way.

Kioti also is claiming to be #3 in the US and Canadian compact tractor markets now. I do not have a way of verifying or discrediting that claim.

Here is a link to the article. Thoughts?

Nothing would surprise me about numbers in 2021, a sales year distorted by Covid-19. Whoever had tractors, sold them.

My local Kubota dealer was down 1/4 in unit sales at year end 2020/2021 due to factory closures.

Covid-19's spread around the world is uneven.

Interesting about your dealer being down in sales that much. Wonder if it was a regional problem?

In the US there was a increase in of 8.9% for tractors under 40HP and 10.3% increase for 40-100HP over 2020.

So it was either a regional problem or Kubota lost 25% of the market in 2021. Wonder if you could ask your dealer what their thoughts are on their reduced sales?
