Tractor Sizing Tractor buying advice for 47 acres at 8600 ft

No.

It is hard for dealers to sell tractors over the 25-horsepower break point as Tier IV emission controls are required, increasing the tractor price by about $3,000.

Adding a turbo to a 25-horsepower to 35 horsepower tractor would add another $3,500 for a total upcharge of $6,500, appealing to a minisule segment of potential buyers.

Turbo-charged tractor engines begin at ~~50-horsepower~~.

With the property description in Post #1 it is hard for me to imagine many occasions when maneuverability would be an issue. Tractors seem to shrink once you put 200 or so hours on the engine clock. You may need to occasionally fire up a chainsaw to increase maneuvering room.

You, like me, will be a retired, recreational tractor operator. I cannot imagine how two tractors and two sets of implements can possibly make sense. Depreciation and maintenance is bad enough on ONE tractor. I paid a $982.84 invoice today for Woods' hydraulic accumulator installation on FEL and Rotary Cutter repair. $75.00 was transportation.

Along the bigger and smaller tractor thoughts.....If I were to get a smaller (subcompact) to do smaller chores with (or those that require more maneuverability/smaller footprint) anyone know of a subcompact with a turbocharged engine?

I looked at Kubota, JD, and Kioti and did not see any. I might have missed them.

At one time Yanmar made very sophisticated small diesel engines. I haven't kept up with them and I'm not familiar with what they are offering now. But they have the capability and technical expertise. I'd look there for small turbos.

Hi,

New Holland T 4.65 with 12x12 shuttle. It is worth the drive to the dealer since the unit has a great engine, cab and ALO loader. Kubota still has paint issues so I would be all set there and would probably go Deere instead. Lots of orange to pink tractors here. Massey has nice equipment and good fit/finish.

The Kubota B3350 (33hp) and Branson 4015 (40hp) are small turbo CUTs. There's probably others.

My Branson was huge when I replaced my Kubota B7100 with it. But it got a lot smaller in the first 30 hours and has shrunk some more since then (I'm at 110 hours after a year). There's a few small corners that I could mow with the B7100 and can't get with the Branson but a few minutes with a brush cutter/weed whacker deals with them.

look for a deere 3720 compact tractor. I believe they were turbocharged.

Where did you see specs to indicate the B3350 was turbocharged? I can’t find that on the Kubota website.

All great points. I was thinking something smaller to do any lifting I can’t do with my back. A small open station with a bucket grapple only. However Maybe it would be a waste of time and money.

I was also thinking more of a BX size for the small stuff. Maybe there just isn’t a real need. Spend it on a UTV or small truck.

Download the spec sheet. The engine type is a V1505-T. The T indicates turbo. It's also on tractordata where it plainly says turbo. It used to be right in the specs section on the old version of the Kubota web site before it changed in the last year. I don't know why they hide this information. Maybe because of the problems the B3350s were having. Or because some people are anti-turbo.

You can also see the turbo on the parts diagram. (Messicks has one on line).

I would suggest at least a compact utility tractor in the 4 series Deere, M Kubota, New Holland Workmaster, etc...They are all good. It comes down to your money, needs, and wants. Not an endorsement of those three over others. I personally prefer those.
