Is this a scam? tractor check

As you say the MF135 was last produced in 1975. Nevertheless it is a great little tractor and (while I don't know US pricing) the price seems fair for one in good condition when converted to £3500.

One caution though - 46 genuine hours???? Even if it was 1991, that seems unbelievably low.....

That's definitely not a 1991 model Massey 135 tractor.

Judging by the pictures, it's a deluxe and appears to be a 1964-1967 model. The solid red front wheels would normally indicate a later year, but it appears to be an older restoration so the colors may not be accurate. The air filter is the tipoff to it's approximate year range because the vertical-style air filter was only used prior to serial number 641023533, when the newer horizontal-style air filter was put into production. An easy way to remember the air filter "clue" is to keep the year 1967 in mind.

Vertical-style air filter = 1967 or older
Horizontal-style air filter = 1967 or newer

It doesn't appear to have multipower and has been converted to use an alternator instead of the original generator. The hours (46) can't be right considering it's age, and the serial number (897719M2) the ad has listed is actually a part number for a rear axle center housing, but someone who is inexperienced with these tractors probably mistook it to be the serial number.

Lastly, the price ($5500) seems a little high. IMO

Not sure how definite your requirements are. I saw this on CL in Richmond, KY if that is close enough. Looks like a gas model to me.

massey ferguson 135 tractor!!!!!

Jon

Its a gas model...air cleaner to carb on the right side...spin out rims...for $2650, if it doesn't have 5K hours on it, sounds like a good deal. PS: you won't be sorry if its gas vs. diesel, those Cont. Z145s are great engines. BobG in VA

Not sure if central KY too far but here are a couple of Perkins 135's:

Massey Ferguson 135 Diesel -- Power Steering

135 Massey Ferguson

Prices seem a little high to me but I am not an expert. They look like they are in real good condition and maybe if hours are low enough they are worth it. I will tell you they have been listed multiple times on CL. Not sure why. May be just not willing to deal any.

I wanted to make sure you weren't getting rid of that DK40 already, was going to tell you that you could send it north! Been cleaning out the barn at the farm, so I got plenty of room for it!

As far as the welding, that's a long story for another time.

Need someone in Tennesse to checkout this Tractor sales place. I am told that the 135 was last produced in 1975 and this one is listed as a 1991 with 46 hours for 5500.00. Please help so I don't go down there for nuting. http://www.tractorhouse.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=7065805&

Just by the picture Murf, it has all new sheet metal. New, hood, sides, front nose, fenders. Looks to have a bad PTO leak. The angle shows it has new gauges which explains the low hours. New Proofmeter/tachometer. 46 hours since all the work done maybe. Price is way out of the park. $3200 maybe.. if.. if the engine checked out. BTW the sheetmetal looks to be poorly fitted.

MasseyVW is correct about the age judging from the vertical mounted air filter.

They used that same air filter setup on both Perkins and Continentals.

The engineers where idiots when designing it. What the problem with that air filter is when you remove a heavily soiled filter, dirt would fall down into the chamber and would be sucked into the carb the next time it was started. Thus redesigning it and mounting it horizontally. Just a bit of history there. :D The birth year is anywhere from 1964 -67 Too many red flags, and too little info. My advice is to pass. -robert

Not too many diesel Perkins in this area. Plenty of Perkins and Continental gas 135's. Keep shaking those bushes. One will turn up to your liking. -robert
