2004 kubota & 1984 white & 2007 JD 4520
My JD 4520 burnt to ground. It was 4 WD with a cab and a front end loader. I purchase it used from an individual in 2014. It was kept in a barn and perfect. I do not know the year of it and my insurance company wants to know. I have the bill of sale w/ID code, but no year when I look it up. Anybody know where to find out year?

sorry to hear that .how did it catch fire?

Year is very hard to calculate as they aren’t like cars that you can tell by vin. Buying used makes it that much harder as you don’t even know when it was bought new.

I don稚 know. I was on the road driving it back to my house and I could smell something burning. I got out and a small hose had some fire. In a matter of 30 seconds it was completely on fire. I think it may have been a hydronic hose.

Can you ask the last owner and where he purchase the JD,maybe dealer has the history still.

Take your bill of sale to a Deere dealer and they should be able to run it and tell you when it was manufactured. Even though tractors don’t necessarily have model years like cars, the VIN or ID number will have a date of manufacture.

Just give any JD dealer the serial number and they will be able to tell you exactly when it was built.

Somebody might have wrote the year somewhere in your manual if you have the original one.

My serial# and local Kubota dealer will tell you when my Kubota was built.

"My serial# and local Kubota dealer will tell you when my Kubota was built"

Yeah..... but I don't think the OP really cares even a little bit about when YOUR Kubota was built.

I do know what you intended though!
Just pullin' your chain.

Sounds more like a fuel line.

Your closest JD dealership would be able to get closer to the year than most, however if this is correct, the 4520 was only made in 1969 and 70:

TractorData.com John Deere 452 tractor information

John Deere "recycles" the model numbers. 2005-2014 they (John Deere) made a compact. I hope the OP has "replacement value coverage" When my JD 285 was stolen the insurance company paid for a new x700 since it was the closest new model that had liquid cooling, as my 285 did.

wow, sorry to hear about you losing your tractor. My aunt's 85hp JD burnt to the ground a few months ago, however it had been sitting for 2 weeks and it spontaneously caught fire one evening. Fire inspector suspected mice or rats chewing on electrical wires and something may have shorted the battery causing it to catch fire. I still don't know how that's possible but it literally burned to the frame. She luckily had replacement value and ended up getting enough money to fund a brand new one. Hope you have similar luck.

If you have machine serial number any John Deere dealer can look it up as to when it was built, where and to who sold and whatever dealer work or services have been performed.

Here you can bargain with your insurance company and don't have to accept their first offer. It pays to have pictures of older equipment in good condition, although you could get into apraisal territory and pay higher premiums.

I'd had my tractor for less than a year and one day I'm setting up to use the post hole digger and my son says "I'm smelling a lot of diesel." me: "yeah well it's a diesel" son: "no, look, there's something just pouring onto the ground"
Rodents (of the usual size) had chewed through the diesel return line.

Needless to say, it's kept in a container now...

I'll see you that movie reference, and raise you one and say 'INCONCEIVABLE!'

I filled the tank on my father's L2800 last fall but when I went to use it a few months later it was almost empty, with a big diesel stain underneath it. Upon inspection the overflow line had been disconnected from the tank, and fallen low enough so that it could siphon out onto the ground.
