I wonder how much damage there was to his shorts?

My completely uninformed guess is that Tannerite might be involved.

A more likely explanation might be a "trucker bomb". You know, those half-gallon bottles filled with pee, that ferment in the hot sun until they're ready to burst. I have hit many mowing the lot behind the Flying J truckstop, though I quit that job. The "explosion" is definitely loud enough to hear...never saw any 1'x3" craters though. Might be coincidental on that, and the IED doesn't deserve the name. Just my thoughts.

I have been loosely following this (being familiar with the area). Per the posted link there have been 20 explosions but this is the first one that I am aware of where one was triggered in such a manner. Weird, or is that someone being weird?

Meanwhile, here in Oregon, a pothole in Market Street smiles ruefully at the thought of a three inch hole being called a crater.

Completely legal as far as I know. Along with Pennsylvania 's new law legalizing fireworks.
Be a lot more people walking around with a few fingers missing.

Stupid law makers!!

Just another utterly stupid news story full of emotion inducing wording.

No facts! What did they find? Any explosive device leaves behind clues as to the construction of the device.

20 in a month is a lot. Someone will end up hurt. We get a batch of bottle bombs going off locally once or twice a year. It's usually juveniles.

Hmmm....... tannerite. Well - this is a FACT. A couple knot heads shooting at tannerite targets caused the Watermelon Hill wildfire right here, four years ago. I have no idea about the boom, bang or craters but it sure burned a lot of valuable out buildings and crop lands.
