wldrbob-If he's like me, you use this site as a resource. You have an idea, run it by this forum, adjust as recommended, and go forth! I thought this "Idea Exchange" was what this board was here for. ~Scotty

Yankee ingenuity is a not always grasped by the masses but they tend call upon it when others are trying to kill them.

The point is not where Phil spent years getting an engineering degree and called in an OSHA inspector that makes his project so exceptional. The project shows us the man behind the project. He exposed himself to the words of those who were not interested in being part of the solution. He took and acted on the words of those who wanted to be part of the solution.

If I am ever in a bad accident and trapped it would be my prayer that one of the "Phil's" of this world would show up and try his best with what was at hand to help.

Some people are thinkers/doer's and others are not.

Rather than reply here, I started a new thread on this topic, showing the performance of the crane at work. I did this in an attempt to move away from the "bickering" flavor that seems to have hijacked this thread, and, hopefully, set a more reality based discourse in the conversation.

I for one like the solution to the challenge. There are many what if this what if that's about any project and they do have points. BUT. The one job you did with the crane is finished or near so. That means you were aware of the shortcomings of the design and were careful not to get in trouble. GOOD JOB and thanks for posting the pictures!!!

I see people here getting unnecessarily defensive on what is offered as an open discussion topic. Most of the challenging comments were offered as valid concerns. I too would question just about very aspect of the design. However, in spite of being an engineer, I will occasionally push the limit and take risks in what I'm doing simply because it's the easiest way out at the time.

What it all amounts to is... you can cross a deep gorge using a bridge or a fallen tree. The choice is yours.

Lots of valid points on both sides of this.
Yes, it did go OK.
Yes, it COULD HAVE turned out all wrong.

Yes, I do find myself able to argue it from both sides at the same time (-:

Yes, I did nearly roll over yesterday trying to do something "marginal" on a side slope.
Yes, I did NOT have my seat belt on - and MAYBE my rapid clambering to the high side got the balance back.
Not saying it did, but getting a couple of hundred pounds to that side probably didn't make things any worse.
Oh yeah, I acknowledge the action/reaction of my movement clockwise about the roll center vs the tractor's counterclockwise tipping.

...and I have driven home WAY too drunk WAY too many times, fortunately I never hurt anyone physically or financially as a result.
and I never got caught.
NOT statistical evidence that I could/should ever do it again - and I will not, not even ONCE.
