You didn't make a case. A case involves rational thought. You made an insult.

But to answer you... its one thing to get out of bed in the morning and risk getting killed on the highway. Its completely another to get on the same highway in a bicycle and give the finger to everyone honking at you.

Hi Gale,
Anyone that calls me "Dude" is of the younger set that must have had training wheels on their tricycle to avoid unforeseen dangers. The sad thing is that I have had over 25 close friends join the crispy critter club one at a time and die violent deaths doing what I specialized in. Some I watched happen and others I flew news flights on afterwards! I legally carry a concealed weapon and the reaction to that from the younger set is mind boggling! We live in a different world today! I don't understand the over reaction against someone trying to do something that is different. That's what made the United States #1......in the past!
Take care,
Jim

Geez Guys! Cut Phil some slack!!! I'm sure he appreciates your concern for "Life and Limb" but he also seems to know the risks involved, and is addressing them as safely as possible. With the remote winch, I think he'll be out of harms way if things go South! I wasn't raised in a 'bubble', and every 'skinned knee' taught me a lesson! Let's get realistic, he's not on a bike, on the highway, with 'finger-up........geez....!!! ~Scotty

JLRNS-Now we're into conceled weapons?? Where did I miss this 'threads' detour??? ~S

Well Saturday has come and gone.....Let's wait until he drags himself out of the collapsed rubble, and find out what he's learned, for the benefit of the group! ~Scotty

well trying to do something different is fine . he just didnt have all the info he needed to make his job safer. im sure you wouldnt hand someone your side arm fully loaded and with the safty off without telling them how to handle it .as for his saftey cables it is going to help but if one turnbuckle breaks its still going to throw that truss around till the slack is out . a little homework and a few bucks more and he could have a ginpole set up that he could use for many other jobs.

Seriously? Addressing them as safely as possible? You call installing cable clamps wrong, off-centering a boom pole, not distributing its load bearing point, not using overhead lift rigging, a winch without an emergency brake, and 350lb wll turnbuckles "as safely as possible"? You really think thats safe? Seriously?

Scotty,
I shouldn't have brought it up but I had just been told how dangerous my life and what I do/did is on another forum that had to do with CWs.

PhilCase,
Do the lift and we can put this thread to rest.

arrabil- Excuuuuuuuuuuusssssssss me "Mr OSHA! And, no, I'm not Phil's defense attorney, but if you read back, I think you'll find that Phil has taken the suggestions given , IE plastic sleeve removal, clamp realignnment etc. to heart! If you need to turn on your coffee maker tomorrow, I suggest you call your electrician, Union, of course, and with all applicable permits in place.........

You sound like his defense attorney to me... Johnny Cochran like.

If you need to turn on your coffee maker tomorrow
Yet again you defenders seem to miss the point.... the coffee maker is designed with the best safety features in mind. If I built a camp fire in the kitchen in order to boil water then I could see where you were going with it... [But then I'd expect you to come to my defense because I was doing things different, being an American, and pissing on OSHA.]

Fear of the unknown spared the native Americans for a long time but it turned out the earth was not flat after someone tested their hunch.

Phil is going into this with both eyes open. At worse I expect is he will drop one and have to rebuild it.

People like all animals are hard wired differently. Some here may not have followed their father/mother out of the house each morning to make a living on the farm by making do with what they had to do with. It was dangerous and some lost limb and lift and kids that witnessed that may be adverse to risk taking today so they would never try something new or that could be dangerous.

I would like a good way to have a 3 point hitch on top of our bucket so I would use one of those 2000 pound rated boom poles in a safe manner. It would be great for loading light items.
