Tractor FEL Crane *Update*

People like all animals are hard wired differently. Some here may not have followed their father/mother out of the house each morning to make a living on the farm by making do with what they had to do with.
Thats a great point.

Phil doesn't fit though because while he was standing in Home Depot buying this stuff he could have purchased the "rated for overhead lifting" pieces for a few more dollars.

At worse I expect is he will drop one and have to rebuild it.
I expect Phil will succeed in his task without any problems. But the worst case scenario is someone getting seriously injured from something snapping.

Phil is going into this with both eyes open
I don't get it. If there is an easy route for safety, making the less-safe decision is somehow justified under any circumstances? I guess thats why we have to have so many lawyers, warning labels, and regulations. Because people want to do whatever they want instead of whats right.

and the other thing is if this works out good ,will he try to lift somthing heavier that might not work out as well.

wldrbob, exactly. And just look at how many people already think there is nothing wrong with doing this even while admitting to knowing people who died while doing similarly poorly-thoughout things.

Just in case you missed it. These are the trusses Phil will be lifting one at a time with the crane.

It is quite normal to have a strong desire to flirt with death. It is also quite common for one man to project his fears on another. How does one safely race in a pack of cars going 200 MPH?

Yesterday even I flirted with death. For the first time I got all four wheels of the backhoe off the ground at the same time. I felt like I was going to roll over when I went to max height on one outrigger before lowering the other side but I held on tight. Thankfully I spotted step ladder first so I had an exit plan.

SAFER barriers, full face helmets, HANS devices, inertia fuel cut-off switches, CAD designed roll cages, roof flaps, stand-by safety crews and doctors, and they just switched away from the wing because it seems it was causing cars to go airborne. NOWHERE in that did they just decide safety was unimportant just because racing is inherently dangerous.

I'll sleep well knowing I was able to argue my point without having to resort to sixth grade insults.

Some of you guys should realize that he going to get the job done, no matter what it takes, and he has already thought this thing out. He says it will work, some of you doubt it. Safety is fine, but how many of you follow all the safety standards. You all cut corners, and you know it. What are you going to say, if and when he completes his project, Oh, he was just lucky, sooner or later it will break, OK, OK, call the safety police, etc. I would guess that the boom will work as planned, and he will get the job done with no or very little help from others. Remember, he does have a remote control for the winch, and he doesn't have to stand under anything.

Even if something should break, just about all inventions had failures before a successful conclusion.
