Thanks for the great info. I spose I could build one --- my wife already thinks I'm nuts at doing everything myself --- just moved into the house I built last year. Actually she helped a ton and I did sub out a few things...

I like your digging bucket. When you drive it forward into hard dirt, how deep can you get it? What would you change on it were you to build another one?

Is a PT in my future? it's definitely a maybe - ha!

Not sure that I would change anything with the bucket. You asked how far it will go into the soil - that depends on many things such as how dense the soil is, type of soil and the force behind the bite. Note I am using a 1430 so have much more weight behind the bucket. I also have very rocky soil and it will bite in at least a foot before I need to readjust. One thing I did have to do is reinforce the tow adapter bought from PT into which my bucket is installed. If you look closely at any hitch platform, the tube is reinforced at the end. The PT tube was not, so I had to reinforce it to prevent it from ripping at the corners from the forces exerted by the bucket.
