Folks with newer electronic tractors may find this interesting:

Hacking Tractor Article

The focus is on Deere but seems applicable to all colors of the newer electronic machines. As an electrical engineer, I can see how this came to be: the gap between designers and maintainers is huge. Glad I own an older machine.

Yeah, read about it when the article(s) first came out, a while ago. Big guys want to control ownership of everything done, like the big guys do with independent mechanics doing work on their cars; Mercedes, Volvo, BMW have done it for YEARS.
Between the EPA dictating what has to be essentially ALL electronic control of emissions, and just about everything on CUTS, I have to say I, like you, am glad my tractor is pre-Orwellian 'controls'.

It will be interesting how all this pans out for farmers and tractor owners of large machines and farms down to the smaller operations/farms. Then there is all the pressure of what's 'organic' food and who makes what, who will survive against the 'industry' farms that have money to crush the little guys...

Bottom line is this, folks can't afford this crap. Even some dealers have trouble fixing the final 4 tractors. We just had one go down for a month at work.

If I find somebody legit that can repair  my tractor you can bet it's happening...
