I'm racking my brain in my recent 50 hours inspection for my new CK20 in trying to figure what you mean by filter bolts. Hope I didn't miss something. What in the world are filter bolts? Are you talking about the two additional drain plugs for the hydraulic reservoir?

I think they are talking about the magnetic bolts that serve as the drain bolt for the HST reservoir and also for the engine oil. At the 50hr oil changes it is common (routine) to find lots of fine metal filings adherent to those bolts.

sorry, but I may not be using the right terminology. The filter has a threaded area that it screws onto, and a bolt (I guess) with magnets on it that goes through the center of the hydro filter. At least my 45 is that way. The pic shows how loaded my "bolt magnets" were.

Hope that solves any brain racking. Sorry for any confusion.

this is the picture of my hydraulic fluid plug (for the whole system). Hst's have two filters - one for tran and one for hydraulic system, and I believe gear drives have only one.

Thanks for the info. I noticed walmart carried supertech and Rotella. was wondering if anyone was using either.

I use Supertech for the hydraulic fluid and Rotella for engine oil. Next time i might just pickup a 5 gallone pail of tractor tranny and HST fluid rather than three two gallon bottles We shall see just which way works best.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. The 20's don't seem to have a set up like that.

PA Hayseed, does your digi cam have a flower on it? If it des try taking close up pics with it on that setting (macro). Most cameras have a min focal distance of 8"-10". Setting it on Macro allows you to focus on very near objects (blurs the background though).

Thanks for the post by the way. I'll get to see the innards of my CK30 HST this weekend. I'll try to post some pics of it.

Sorry, but those are cell phone pics. I was working on my tractor and thought "why not take some pics of this stuff". I was doing a thread on my 45 at the time. I have a nice camcorder/camera, but it isn't going in my garage to take pcitures while I'm changing fluids. Don't care about the phone as much.

As digital cameras tend to be replaced every couple of years with new technology, I just keep an old one in the drink holder on my tractor. Handy and not such a big deal if it gets smooshed.

As Nolan found out, there are various weights of fluid. I stopped at a place near home where the 60 plus owner has sold all types of petrolium products for many years. I gave him the names from the Kioti manual and he said those oils are only a SAE 20 weight. Nolan probably used a heavier weight and had the noise when the temps. were cold.
TSC sells the oil but if you read some of the containers, they will give you the actual weight of the oil and it does vary. Some of the containers don't tell you the weight at all.
As far as engine oil, I took the advise of a TBN member that lives in weather like mine. DK35Vince advised Rotella synthetic 5W40. I have used it for the past three years in my CK30hst and no problems in winter or summer. Winters here can be down to 0F'. Tractor starts with no problem.

That's funny. We just bought a shiny new digi SLR and now the old point and shoot is MINE! I take it on business trips and it's in the garge now more than in the house. I have an older film SLR that just collects dust.
