I used to use a particular auto parts store diesel rated engine oil. Used it for quite some time on naturally aspirated diesels. Bought my first turbocharged diesel tractor and put it in it. At 100 hours it came out like hot urine. That was the end of cheap oil for me some 35 years ago. I haven稚 gone broke buying quality oils and I don稚 expect to.
I know when i started driving my powerstroke I went to good syn oil.
The old 50's models are still getting 50$ a pail stuff. ( I shy away from the 19-35$ stuff even here in florida. my 4000, one of my 850's and my 950 are using store brand syn oil in them. All 3 of them have been gone thru with fellpro gaskets. and don't have any special leaks that they didn't have before the syn oil. I know some people say it causes leaks. Hasn't been my experience.
