Isn't someone still making the 8N some where... am I crazy? Ok... rhetorical question.

Sort of ... New Holland made a Boomer version of it for a couple of years, '09-'11, I believe.

I have a 1951 8N that I bought 47 years ago, when it was 20 years old.
I rarely use it, but it is in great shape, and I have no plans for it to ever leave me.

And none of them had hydrostatic transmissions. How in the world did they ever farm with them!

Just proves hydrostatic drives are just a luxury for some, not a necessity as a lot of people think today.

I don't know about "necessity," but each certainly has its benefits. To me, a hydrostat makes much more sense when the majority of the work is back-and-forth FEL stuff. For row crops, gear tractors absolutely are the better choice.

Just my opinion, though.

I dunno... I can say that being able to just let off a pedal when you get something hung is a lot safer than having to try and get on the clutch before the thing completely comes up and over on you. Once a tractor has rared up on you its very hard to get your foot up and on the clutch. It happens real fast. And your fighting gravity and split second awareness. And they had no ROPS on those days

The I take it you guys wouldn't like working with a FEL you had to manually trip to dump the bucket to dump and then lower to the ground to reset. :D

Oh, how we are spoiled today! Myself included. :)

They didn't know any better. Now we have power steering, overrunning PTO, live PTO, live hydraulics, heavier front axles that can handle a loader, etc, etc.
