How long did it take to look like that ? There is some nice soil in ME. More rocks and trees than farm land. Aroostook County lots of potatoes:thumbsup:

A lot of those rocks are on edges of the treelines.. A few years back during President Obama's BiCAP program, much of that treeline was reclaimed into fields.

Maine is the most forested state in the country

Yet common lore claims that most of it was farmland back in the 1800's. I find that hard to believe...

Although not that many were sold in the US under Rhino brand, my Shanghai (more recently Shanghai New Holland) 55 hp 554 tractor was built from about 1990- 2016 so about 26 years

755,000 Fordsons produced? Only a very few are still around, and basically, none are in use.
524,000 8N's produced,..... maybe 1/2 of them are still around, and most are still in light use?

The old tractors like the Ford 8N, John Deere, etc., were made for one thing, pulling ground engaging implements in a straight line. Or at least as straight as you can hold it. I still have trouble with one of my wrists that was sprained fifty years ago as a 14-year old disking across plowed ground. Front wheel dropped off into a furrow and jerked the steering wheel out of my hands twisting my wrist. And I got yelled at because I only had one hand on the wheel at the time for some reason.

You haven't lived until you have plowed a sixty acre field with a two bottom plow. It wasn't an 8N, it was a 641 that I was on. Slightly larger and much better than an 8N but still no power steering.

There are still many, many old Fords sitting around in Western Kentucky.

I dunno... I can say that being able to just let off a pedal when you get something hung is a lot safer than having to try and get on the clutch before the thing completely comes up and over on you. Once a tractor has rared up on you its very hard to get your foot up and on the clutch. It happens real fast. And your fighting gravity and split second awareness. And they had no ROPS on those days

Maybe for you... Personally, I'm use to a clutch and there is no problem, if needed, to getting it pushed in fast...

That probably wouldn't be true if all of my tractors had come with whiner trannys and that's all I ever ran, but I have both and prefer the gear drive tranny...
