Tractor Models

How many of you remember growing when one could get a plastic tractor models and set down and glue them together./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Now a days you can't purchase one at a good size hobbie shop,[sad]matter of fact they give you a strange look and say"oh they stop making those many years ago" and boy that tells one age real quick w/others around/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
So does anybody know of a company or website etc...who may sell tractor plastic models??

I had both an International and a John Deere that I built as a kid. Even had a plow, wagon and some other contraptions I built from scratch. The models I remember were 1:24 scale plastic kits from AMT and are now out of production. They do show up on Ebay now and then. There was a Deere 410 TLB that is now available again by Ertl (Ertl bought AMT some time ago).

I used to love putting together plastic kits and now they are hard to find. Not sure what kids are doing these days, but I guess I'll find out as my boys grow up /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Don't be surprised if they show up again. I have noticed lately a lot of old kits resurfacing. i.e. The Beatles yellow submarine, Those cars with Rat something or other in them, Lost in Space saucer and a lot of the old strange funny car kits like the Paddy wagon(keystone kop takeoff hotrod). I wish I had the money back that I poured in to that hobby, I could probably buy a back hoe!! I have mixed feelings if I want my boys to get into models though it sure kept me busy and out of trouble. They, like a few other things seem to have exponentially gone up in price. As an example take a Tamaya military moterized Tiger I tank. These used to be the pinnacle for us back in the late 70's. They were $9.99 and seemed to us to cost a fortune. That same model today costs $50.00. I'm just not sure there is $50.00 worth of enjoyment to be had there anymore./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I built mostly WWII fighters and bombers. About the only source for those now is a Japanese company (Hasakawa or something like that) and they run $30+ for 1:48 scale. No way I'll pay that. My son likes models but even simple snaptites are $15 and only have about 20 parts.

I used to build the plastic models, too, mostly military vehicles or planes, but also the occasional car. I also built balsa wood airplanes that you had to spread tissue (?) paper over the wings and then paint the paper with 'dope'. They usually didn't last very long. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I remember that brand...Hasegawa. I steered pretty clear of planes...I never could get the body halves together with all the stuff inside without dripping glue everywhere. Weren't they also the ones that had the waterline series of ships. You got a battleship that only had a thin price of red plastic covering the bottom of the ship. It made it look like it was sitting in the water and was all ready for those diarama (spelling?) people. Do you remember when they came out with that non toxic (non working) glue. I guess that was the beginning of the huffing craze.

Mike...I tried two of those wood planes and they did not last long at all. Never really got into them. Funny thing is I now am into radio control planes and they are built much like those kits. Only they don't use dope and tissue for covering. RC planes use a plastic film that you stick to the plane with an iron which activates the adhesive on the back. Tissue was a piece of cake compared to this stuff!!!

I did a quick search on the net and found this site. It looks as though you could find just about anything you would want. I wonder if those tractors ar in there too.

Do I ever! K Mart wouldn't sell me the real stuff anymore. They told me teens were putting it in their nose and getting high (I had no clue what "High" meant). I went home started building my model and tried to figure out why anyone would put glue in their nose, but hey, if the TEENAGERS are doing it... Well curiousity got the best of me and I ended up gluing my nostrol closed. My folks were P Oed at both me and K Mart! Good thing it was the non toxic stuff.

I always think about that clerk telling me why they couldn't sell me the glue whenever I see an article in the local paper about the rise in meth labs in the area and then telling the reader in detail how meth is made.

Gee, I'll have to ask my mom if the nose thing would be better or worse than the fire I started in the basement playing war. You know, you can never have too much realism!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Oh yeah, squirt oil cans make great flame throwers!!!
