Tractor
Massey Ferguson 2615 48hp, 4wd, loader
I was taking the loader off my MF 2615 when it quit running. Tried to restart it but everything was dead, even the horn. Checked the battery cables, checked the battery it read 13.5 volts. I want to check the ignition swith but can't get to it.
This machine has a fuel solonoid that allows the fuel to flow and is supposed to shut off when the ignition swith is turned off, so it needs power to run the engine.
I've searched for a parts manual for the machine without luck.
Any thoughts?

Mark, the only way to shut off a diesel is to cut the fuel off. Since you have a fuel cut off solenoid, check for the power supply to the solenoid. Generally the circuit is battery to key switch to all safety interlocks to solenoid. Check for relays, fuses and loose wires in that circuit. Make sure there is continuity between the battery and all these switcheds and you should find your problem. You don't have to check the ignition switch per se, just check the wires leading to it and leading from it. if you have a VOM use that to look for baterry voltage going into the key switch and coming out of the key switch with the switch in the RUN position.

When you say you checked the battery cables, did you take the battery cable terminal clamp off the battery????
If not, slack off the bolt and pull them off starting with the negative.
Check for oxide build up in the clamp and on the battery terminal...VERY common problem!!
A tight clamp doesn't mean a good connection!!
