I agree, both my Kioti and land LS held their value very well when I sold them after a year.
I have yet to see any type of proof they hold a higher resale value (price new vs price used) than the other brands

I agree but for several reasons. Back in 2006 when I saw my first array of sub compacts . . Only 2 stood out from any others in my thunking . . Kubota bx and cub cadet yanmar sc2400. Nobody else was even close to the smooth lines, tight design features, and expandable features as a combination.

But times have changed in more ways than they stayed the same.

1. Now the quantity of tight interesting sub compact designs is multiplied . .

2. At the very same time as interested people has expanded by multiples . . .

3. At the very same time that prices and financing costs have plummeted in comparison to affirdability and capability.

Resale values are high for many sub compacts because demand is high. Name recognition is important . . but name recognition is different now than it was in a developing market.

And witness the maturity of design. Look at the floor of a Kubota bx, a Yanmar 221, a Massey gc1700. They are all flat floors with comfort seats and not a hump to step over or a knob to trip on. They are 3rd and 4th generation product. A 2nd generation brand (not named) in a 24 hp is nicely painted but it has a floor of humps, bumps, and control knobs. My point is . . a mature commodity market with currently growing demand . . has a new expectation by prospects.

Kubota and to a smaller extent JD, had huge parts of the sub compact market . . but never again will they hold the same new dominant percentage they once had. They'll sell a ton of machines . . but Yanmar and Massey and a couple more will sell a ton too. And current 1st and 2nd generation named products will split the remainder.

Selection and choices and design improvements are far greater now than ever before in the scut market . . exactly as quantity of demand and low cost financing all come together.

He bought his Massey after selling the LS.

I sold my LS (to go much bigger) after 15 months and 215 hours for $2k less than I paid for it. I thought that was pretty reasonable.

If it was me (and it's not) I'd buy a big, used, 90-100hp 2wd for haying and get a used Ford 4wd 30hp with a backhoe and loader.

Just curious. What size Mahindra are you referring to ? Scut or cut or ??

What's a CUT or SCUT? :) I'm not really opening that can of worms again.

I'm basing my smiley faced comment on my own experience with my 3016. It's probably unfair to extrapolate across the whole Mahindra line, but much of what I've read, based on others experiences, and what I see at dealers and read about the model specs, the whole product line is very good indeed.

Better? Maybe.

But everyone knows that tractors are subjective, like women, etc.

A scut is a sub compact tractor like a mahindra 22 or 24 hp. A cut is a compact tractor . . Which means bigger wheels and frame.

The reason I'd asked was I'd heard talk about the big compacts and larger in the brand were competitive.

I'd looked at the smaller products and thought they were pretty but not impressive in design, price, or fit.

But no . . From a debate standpoint, something very good in fit, finish, and design . . I personally didn't see anything like that with the name Mahindra on iit.

And "real tractors not large lawn mowers" . . .isn't my type of verbiage . . . I rather fashion myself a large lawn mower driver in red . . Massey red". Lol

Your 3016 and the 3616 are definitely CUTS (in my opinion). I sat on a Max28 at my dealer's place one day, and I think it's a CUT too. A small CUT, but a bigger frame than a SCUT. In my opinion.

Oh no. Next thing you know, we'll be arguing about what's the best oil. ;)

This can be so deceiving for any brand. Are people talking private sale or dealer trade, if dealer trade did they pay retail, did they get the same discount they'd get w/o a trade. How many dealers did they check with.

I just sold a 14 year old NH for $3500 less than what I paid for it new (private sale). But there is inflation of the dollar in that time. Makes me think I got a great price. If you're happy with it then that is what matters. I am. You might hear from people that are happy with what they got but not from people that feel embarrassed by not getting a "good trade"

In general if you take a look at several brands and find something that really works for you. Then do your research and make sure that the brand has a good dealer in your area. Make sure that the brand is well known to supply parts after production ends. It may not matter to you if you only keep it for a few years but it will affect the resale if the next owner does his research.

I personally tend to stick with the major players but that is getting blurry as you find more and more rebadged tractors.

Sorry to the OP for not being of much help but as mentioned, there is no consumer reports for tractors. Features on one brand that may be perfect to one person may be useless to another because everyone has a little bit different applications and situations they use them in.

I went with Kubota over JD because the stock seat was 10x better and I expect the dual speed hydro on the Grand L will come into use nearly every time I use it. The JD had 3PT and creep controls on the back fender. If I were exchanging implements all day that could be the feature that sold the JD. Just wasn't for me and what I do with it. BTW I got my Kubota for $800 more than what was offered for the equivalent HP Kioti. The Kubota had more features so IMO it really wasn't an equivalent tractor. Do your homework. In all I got quotes from 9 dealers for 5 different brands and 9 different models of tractor.

In the end there are a few things I can definitely say I don't like on my new tractor or I think that another brand did something better. But overall I am happy with what I am getting and feel I can make modifications as needed to rectify some of my concerns.
