Tractor
kubota M4800, M9540HDC4WD, MASSEY FERGUSON 50 BACKHOE
I was looking through the classifieds here on this web site to see what folks had up for sale. there happened to be a 2002 John Deer 6410(180hrs),4wd with a cab listed there for $9,000. sounds to good to be true. This tractor list on other tractor web sites any where from $37,000 to $60,000 with any where from 1,000 to 4,000 hours on them for the same year to a few years older. I also noticed some 600 people looked at this listing. So how many of you think this is a scam?

Look and you'll see a 2007 JD 4320 4x4 with 485 hrs, also for $9,000 (being sold by the same person). What do you think? I must have paid way too much for my little tractor.

My local dealer told me recently of a person who lost just under $5,000 on a scam. Have any of you ever heard of anyone being caught or prosecuted? Or they all in a country where reaching them is out?

Often times they are in other countries. Virtually all of the scam ads we find on TBN are posted using AOL accounts, which are very difficult to track. Technically it can be done but scammers use proxy servers in other countries and it winds up being a dead end. On the flip side, if I were to try to track down myself based on my IP address, it wouldn't be that difficult, especially with the help of law enforcement.

6 months ago when I was shopping, I found a ton of scams. Whenever it seemed too good to be true, I would look up the phone number on a reverse directory and compare it to the name they gave in the add--it was always different. Then I would google the phone number they listed--and with the scams, I would find a lot of different ads using the same number, different people's names and different states--all using the same phone number.

Checking out the phone number on google was fun because I found the same scammer advertising all over the internet advertising different tractors and claiming to be in different states. They all wanted me to send them a down payment and were "willing to deliver the tractor for free". I would ask what town they were in--and when they told me where they claimed to be--I would tell them I had a friend there in town that was in Law Enforcement and owed me a favor--he would come by and pick up the tractor and deliver my cashiers check to them--all of a sudden they quite e-mailing.

I always turned them into the site where they were listing--but usually nothing happened until I followed it up with phone calls.

Then just for kicks I tried turning them into the FBI internet scam site--nothing happened.

""Then just for kicks I tried turning them into the FBI internet scam site--nothing happened.""

Played with one tractor scammer listed in my home town.
Had him 'on the hook' so to speak, ready to hand over to the law.
Followed up with law enforcements that just flipped me from Local to Provincial to RCMP and over to Phone Scam Busters.
Even the RCMP(=to FBI) said call back monday 9-5!
Costs is what they claim, lack of budgets, multi juristictions and advised me basically 'buyer beware'.
Essentially they are only interested in 'clean and easy' cases like murder and traffic violations.
One agency even laughed at me saying 'this is not a TV series!'
Out tax dollars at work!

Well I just found a new craigslist searcher and this one let's you put in tractor brand, location, and a filter.
The previous searchers I had used would just dump it by location and date.
This ones dumps like all of a region by date.

Well just in the northeast there's over 30 BX24's for sale for $4800!! And they are all 2007's!!

I'd like to get a dozen!! :)

But for some reason every post for $4800 I check has been flagged for removal :(

The ones with a realistic price (>10K) seem real.

The searcher can't filter out the scams.

Because of the ban on craigslist stuff if someone wants the name of the searcher just pm me, I think that's allowed.

Just realize - NEVER buy off craigslist without safely doing a hands on inspection, maybe even being backed up by police.

The cab alone is 6+k....... why would you think they could sell the tractor this cheap ? Most dealers will buy equipment if the price is right. I assume if they just want out of it this would be the fastest cash available. Scams are always 3 states away so you can't see them. If they are not located within a couple hours away from your location you can bet someones fishing. Don't get in the boat !

The sad thing is the scammers know that law enforcement has no interest in chasing them down and they are brazen and will push and push and push. My neighbor tried to sell her truck online, first day guy offers to buy, sends her a bank check and said his tow truck would be there the next day. She said, hold-on, want the check to clear, goes to bank, bank states check is fraudulent, right routing number, bad account number. She calls the FBI, the say, LOL LOL LOL, this is call one of thousands we get. Tell the bank, she said she did and the bank said call the authorities. Neither the bank nor the authorities have any resources or interest in chasing down.

Meanwhile the guy calls two days later and said can the tow truck come and pick up the car?? She said, are you nuts, I know the check is bogus, he hung up.

These guys know there is no one chasing them and they don't care.

Yeah Pine, thats either a scam or the deal of a lifetime. I'm guessing the attachements alone are worth the asking price.

There is a scammer network out there. They scam on Craig's List. I was looking for a used Zero Turn mower and was lulled by the low price and nice looking photos. On closer look all the photos were taken in a sales show room. The Craig's seller claimed to be in military service deployed to Afganistan. All I needed to do was send a money order and the mower would be delivered to my door by the by the Army! Some people have no shame!
I later found the same MO on Craig's selling used cars below blue book price. This time claimed to be a woman and single Mom in the US Army. I reported these ads to Craig's list. Didn't see their ads for a while but today I saw one for a 2009 John Deere mower for $1900.

....

Just realize - NEVER buy off craigslist without safely doing a hands on inspection, maybe even being backed up by police.

A local farmer purchased a kubota tractor off Kijiji 4 years ago. This February he sent it to the dealer for service. A few weeks latter the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) showed up on his farm with a trailer and hauled it away. It was stolen 4 years ago.
