Tractor Stuck

Catvet,

We have all been there...I have been there more times than I care to remember and every time I say "why did I drive in here". I have used planks, pulled with my back hoe, pushed with my fel, etc. etc. It sure gets ugly quick. Last Spring I was in pretty bad and everything I did just made more and more soup out of the mud. I literally had to drag the tractor out inch by inch with the backhoe - what a mess. I also have a habit of getting to the wrong side of the mud hole (like you did ) and then cutting new trails just to find a fresh path out of the woods. What fun! I'm quite sure I'll do it again.

Wow!

I almost got stuck in a Lull type offroad fork lift. The axles will turn independantly but it wasn't working until I remembered that they could also be turned in the same direction. In other words, both front and rear tires pointing left in parallel. When I did that it climbed out of the hole sideways like a crab. I was quite proud.

I also remember years ago seeing THREE of the biggest bulldozers I've ever seen stuck in a muddy logging deck in the black mud of Charleston, SC. Two of them were buried up to the cage. They stayed stuck for 2 or three months until the mud dried out and they dug them out!

One of our employees didn't understand that an "all-terrain" forklift really doesn't mean all terrain, and tried driving a big Selleck through standing water. Of course he made it over half way. Luckily, we had a big Lull on site with outriggers, and we were able to push him the rest of the way by reaching out and then extending the mast.

Our pond diggers had a D7 stuck in the remnants of our original pond. Unfortunately, I wasn't around to see them get it out, but I know they use a BIG trackhoe.

( Than I'd get a tow strap and start pulling with every vehicle I had. If one wont do it, get a second. I've heard of people using four vehicles chained in a line to get enough traction to get the stuck one out.
Good Luck,
Eddie

not to correct eddie or anything, but i'd advise using one chain per tow vehicle. one chain tied to two or more vehicles in series is a great way to break the chain connecting a stuck tractor and more vehicles than it was designed to connect to. A broken chan can and will kill you if it hits you.

Let me also say a stuck tractor has caused many injuries in other ways. please be careful. someone suggested chaining a board to your tire - please do not follow that advice. so dangerous. Also ignore any advice to place a chain around the drive wheel and use it as a winch.

if you still want to do these things, make sure your widow knows how to sell tractors/machinery to make ends meet.

ain't you got any friends with tractors that can pull you out?
