Tractor Supply Does It Again

I know exactly what you are saying. It seems they always run low on popular and high quality items. For example I feed Purina Strategy to my horses. This past summer every time I went there they were out or nearly out. After weeks of complaining to the manager they finally started stocking enough to supply their customers. Now I'm going through the same thing with Diamond dog food. Just this Friday they only had 2 bags that were ripped up and taped with a 2 dollar discount. Thanks but no thanks. I don't think it's the store employees or even individual store management. I think it has to do more with corporate. They basically send what they send and you get what you get. I don't understand that business model so if anyone can please explain it. ...lol

We had the same problem at the local TSC. Finally talked to the manager. He said he kept upping his order and could not understand why he was getting slammed on purina horse feed. He did not realize one locally owned feed mill closed. That made TSC the only purina dealer in the area. Since we told him that there is always strategy in stock by the pallet load.

I'm planning on using all poly tape around the garden this year, so last week I ordered everything I'll need through TSC, since the last time I was there they only had a very few of the things I'll need in stock. My thinking was that when the order came in, I'd make one trip and have the entire kit in one shot.

The other day I got an email that said a portion of my order was ready for pickup and it had to be done within 5 days or they would charge me a restocking fee. I checked that the items that were ready were the two stocking items from the store, less than $10 worth of stuff, so I put off driving the 22 miles, hoping the remainder of the order would come in. Yesterday I had to pick it up, so I made the trip, got my pitiful little sack of stuff and came home.

Just this morning I got an email that the rest of the order is at the store and I've got 5 days to pick it up! Now I've got to make another run to town.

Absolutely the last time I'll ever order anything from TSC online.

Good to know!
Yet another BAD for TSC!

TSC is the only "farm" store within 50 miles of me. I get by ther about once a month, usually for bulk hardware which is still a bargain. About 2 or 3 months ago I needed some 1/4" flat washers. The bulk bin was filled with 5/16" washers. I told the person at the customer service desk of the problem. He said that the bins were filled by an outside vendor and he would notify them.

A month later I go back and there are still 5/16" washers in the bin. I find the manager and show him the issue. He tries to convince me that "those are 1/4" washers". I grab a 5/16" washer from the next bin over labeled 5/16" and show him that they are the same size and then take him to the sizing display and the "1/4" washer fits on the 5/16" stud.

Another month later and guess what? Still the same. I guess that they just don't care.

Home Depot does the same thing. Their stockers are told the shelves can't look bare, if they're out of something put something else in its place to fill the shelf space. It's infuriating if you're actually looking for something.

It also raises the question of how a company that claims to sell hardware could be out of 1/4" washers...

That's my problem too. My local feed store has stopped selling things where they can't compete on price with TSC. So has my go-to online vendor, Kencove. Which means that if TSC doesn't have something in stock -- or the people in the store can't find it -- there's nowhere I can buy it any more.

I bought a wheelbarrow at TSC a couple years ago. After a year or so I had two flat tires from running it over some thorns. Went to TSC with the intention of buying flat free tires. They still sold the same brand of wheelbarrow and had a good bit of flat free tires and regular tires but none would fit the wheelbarrow they sell. Go figure.

If the bin isn't empty, why should they change it? 😁

Good idea! Next time I'm there I'll take all the "1/4" and move them to the 5/16 bin where they belong.
