JOHN DEERE 4020 / 4040
NEED SOME HELP WITH FLAT REPAIR ON REAR TIRE ON JD4040. I PUT NEW TIRES ON A JD 4020 4-5 YEARS AGO MYSLEF, BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY HOW I GOT THE BEADS BROKE. I THINK I USED A "HANDYMAN JACK" AGAINST THE REAR LIFT ARMS AND BROKE THEM LOOSE THAT WAY.
YOU WOULD THINK AFTER ALL THAT SWEAT I WOULD RECALL THAT.
ANYONE OUT THERE EVER ATEMPTED BEAD BREAKING THAT WAY?

I used a duckbill hammer when I changed 11 tires on an old military deuce. I tried a highlift jack on the bead and the truck, but it didn't want to work. If you are not reusing the tires put some WD-40 on the bead.

:welcome: to TBN and when you get you tires changed and have time tell us a little bit about yourself and your :tractor:.

I always take mine to a tire dealer.

OH! BY THE WAY MOST OF US HEAR REAL WELL WITH OUR EYES OPEN! SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT!!:laughing::laughing:

With my backhoe outriggers out, I removed the wheel/tire and rolled the whole thing to the front of my tractor and used the FEL bucket edge against the tire bead.

Drive a little with the tire flat. Easy way to break the bead loose.
For lube use soapy water, fairly heavy on the soap. :p Tastes awful.

I had a 12.4 x 24 tractor tire I could not break the bead on. I took it to the local heavy tire dealer and a old salesman was the only one there, but, he said he'd do it. He got out a big slide hammer tool and the soappy water bucket and 'bout five minutes later the bead was broken on both sides. I went to pay for it and he just waved me away saying some about "just go home and put your tire on and come back when you can actually buy something". He's right I will come back when I can actually buy something. More to the point is The Slide Hammer and Soappy Water to bust loose stubborn beads. Oh yes, "Thank you Old Tire Salesman" some guys with experience just can't be replaced. bjr
