Ok guys I have a small 3 cylinder Japenese tractor and ran it out of fuel the other day. Now it won't start, doesn't even seem to be firing now. I checked to see if it has fuel at the filter which it does. Any ideas why and what can be done to get it running again?:confused2:

Try cracking each injector line (at the injector) loose, one by one, and crank the engine over. Tighten the injector fuel line after you get a steady stream of fuel for each injector. This will help bleed the air out of the fuel system.

Maybe you have already tried the above, but here is another thing. Does your tractor have a manual fuel shut off or an electric one that works with the key? If you have an electric one (integrated in the key switch) the fuel shutoff solenoid on or near the injection pump could be malfunctioning or not opening at all.

You should find a bleed point at the high pressure injection pump.:)

On some there are two bleed screws on the filter assembly and another where the line goes into the pump. Following the direction of flow, open the first bleed screw until no air comes out. Then the next one and the next one. Do this first before opening a line on an injector and try to start. I've never had to bleed an injector. If you do have to, be very careful because of high pressure at injectors.

Using bleeder screws first is best, I agree but just to clarify, I am not suggesting cracking the actual injector, just the ferrel ended fuel line going into the injector. Pressure here is not that intense, and on gravity supplied fuel systems sometimes all of the air does not bleed out at the injection pump or filter housing.

Go as far as needed to bleed the air out. It sounds like air is your enemy here.

Ok guys thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. It would be nice if it had a fuel gauge or at least a bleeder for just such cases.

When you run a diesel out of fuel you need to bleed the fuel system from the tank through the filter(s) through to the injector pump to the injectors before it will start. First fill the tank. Then open the tank valve then unscrew the bleeder screw at the top of the filter and let the air obubbles out. When no more air bubbles come out, close the bleed screw and bleed the injector pump. Make sure that the battery is fully charged then loosen the fitting on one injector and crank untill nothing but fuel comes out. Do like wise with the rest and the tractor should start by the time you get to the last one.

That's what it was is air in the line. All I had to do was bleed the fuel line going to the pump and it fired right up. Thanks Guys...love these learning experiences.
