I was using my dads tractor to mow our grass and I ran it in to the electric fence. It died when I hit it and now it won't start. What could it be?

need more info...diesel or gas?. What part of tractor hit the fence? Does it turn over but not catch? Does solenoid click? What diagnostic procedures have you performed?

Given what you say, compression should be unchanged.
A high voltage spark from the fence could have gotten to some electrical component...are there any circuit boards in the tractor?

Redbull,
we really do need more info to help you, was this the Kubota that stopped?
stopping a tractor with an electrical fence is not "normal" so something electrical is likely.
If your engine is diesel, most will keep running even with impaired electrics, unless you have a newer model that
is electronically controlled. Then you may have zapped a black box, as texasjohn says.

this is very unusual. When fixed please let us know what it was. Good luck.

Definitely need more info. What tractor? Do the head lights come on? I blew a fuse on my B2920 that went to the headlights. Apparently it's on the same circuit as starting it. Check your fuses. May sound dumb but do you have fuel in it. Could be coincidental you ran out of fuel at the same time. Is the fence wound up under the mower deck? Is the PTO half engaged preventing it to start? Where the fence touched the tractor is it scorched? When you ran into the fence, how hard did you hit it? Did something get Jarred loose like a battery cable? Give us the run down. Someone here will have the answer. Send photos of what you did to.

Almost sounds like he,s in a hurry to fix it before dad gets home, so he won,t have to explain how he managed to run into an electric fence. Where you texting while mowing ? Thought I would add a little humor.

Is Carnac in the house?

I would like to know what happened cause I mow around some tight spots that contain electric fences and knowing what will happen if one day I happen to scoot a little too far one way or the other.

It is a Raven. It is a hybrid. I was running full speed ahead and could not turn fast enough to miss the fence.

Shoot a can of ether into the air filter if you have some until it starts.

I don't know what ether is and my dad does not have a gun to shoot it.

I went out to try to find the air cleaner and I found it. I tried to start it and it started now. I think I forgot to put it in neutral. We have not had this thing long and I am not used to it.

I don't know what ether is and my dad does not have a gun to shoot it.

now RedBull, just having a little fun with you, but ether is pressurized starting fluid, which you spray into the air intake to start.
The squirting/application of ether is called "shooting" it in.

So please, don't take the shotgun to your tractor! :D
and I'm sure by now your Dad has suggested you drive a little slower and keep it under control.

Welcome aboard. Btw, when riding mowers/tractors won't start, always check the safety disconnects, like the one which shuts off the tractor if you aren't sitting in the seat, aren't in neutral, or the clutch depressed, or the pto on, lots of chances to have absolutely nothing happen when you turn the key. All usually for your own good.

The good thing is you got it started and running, plus if a lesson was learnt then that's a bonus that makes you that much better/wiser.
