check the compression, if too low, it won't start. if any battery cables are getting hot, replace them, as that means your starter won't be turning fast enough because of the voltage drop.

I have a 88 white field boss 31 with a iseki engine it will turn over but wont start it is getting fuel the battery is good and the starter is good checked the fuses in dash and they are good glow plug light says it is heating up any help would be great thanks

Tyler, you need to tell us more about your tractor to get better answers to help solve your problem. You say the engine turns over, won't start. Getting fuel, but to where? Battery is good. Starter is good. Fuses in dash are good. Glow plugs have since been removed and checked OK?

How long have you owned the tractor? How many hours on the tractor? How has it been used? did it usually start after turning over a couple of times? When was it last serviced, and what was done? How long has it set before this problem came to your attention? Have you done any recent service work, just before the no start problem?

If your tractor has been starting until recently, has never over heated, has less then say 1000 hours, do not start removing parts to test them or you will simply compound the original problem. Start with the very simple. For example, you say the battery is good. How do you know, who tested it? Have you removed the battery cables and checked them for corrosion under the insulation? Or removed the ground wire at the frame and cleaned the frame and ground wire connection so they both shine? If you don't have good connections and wires, your battery can't get it's job done!

It's pretty easy to isolate a fuel starvation problem, step by step. Start at the line coming from fuel tank. Disconnect it to see if fuel is coming out. Then proceed towards the injection pump. When fuel it at the IP, you can loosen the steel fuel lines at the top of the injectors a couple of turns. Have your throttle lever on full fuel. Turn engine over in 15-20 second burst to purge the air from the fuel. Wait 15-20 seconds between start attempts when purging air or you may overheat your starter and then you have a new problem. I've mentioned in this thread, do not try to circumvent the starting problem by using any starting fluid.

Take time to answer each question if you expect good answers.

Have you tried cycling the glow plugs multiple times ? I have a forklift the requires min of 35 to 40 secs on the glow plugs or you can turn it over all day and it won't start. I bought a mini excavator cheap because if a cloud went in front of the sun the owner couldn't get it running. This morning after sitting all winter I cycled the glow plugs 6 times and it started right up same as it has since I got it 2 years ago. Unless I do this it won't start.

hope I answer all the questions again thanks for helping I have loosened all fuel lines going to pump and all have fuel coming out I replaced both battery cables and cleaned the ground have hooked 2 batteries up to it that arnt very old even with jumper cables hooked up to them to another battery that was running I will say if you turn the lights on when trying to start it they flicker but tractor till turns over I had used the tractor for about 30 min with a scraper blade grading my driveway and put it back in garage when closing my garage door the door broke and couldn't open it was 2 weeks before I got it fixed so the tractor set for that long had changed oil about a month before didn't change fuel filter cause it wasn't do yet and didn't seem dirty hope this helps and have tested voltage at the starter and its 12.5 but just setting not trying to start

also have owned tractor for 14 months with no problems it has 1200 hours

I would suggest doing a compression test.
Also you could remove the fuel lines at the injectors and verify that you are getting a good spurt of fuel.
And have you physically stroked your fuel stop at the engine, not just the cable.

how do I do a compression test and yes I have done that at the engine what would happen if I took it loose at the engine

/ tractor wont start #32
Your fuel stop is cable operated, correct?
It should have a mechanical stop at full on and full off, I have had the cables slip on those.
Using a diesel compression gauge, (higher pressure then a gas engine) depending on your engine either thru
the glow plug port or the fuel injector port.

its not cable its metal rod

OK that shouldn't slip.

if I had the money id sell the **** thing for scrap and buy a new one haha

Yea but just look at the learning experiance you are getting.
Years ago when I got my Oliver 1550 it was old and a bit tired,
Right after I got it I changed the gear lube and hydraulic oil, after that the loader was quite weak.
When I drained the hydraulic hydraulics I saw how thick the fluid was and knew I had problems,
so a new pump took care of that for a bit.
Then moving snow one night broke a shift rail in the transmission, had to pull the hydraulics and top cover
and pto drive shaft and welded the shift rail in position in the transmission, re assembled and back going again.
Then went thru the head completely and did rings, bearings and seals to the engine.
She ran so much better ended up taking out the clutch, while replacing the clutch ended up rebuilding the hydro power
and replacing the pto drive hub and shaft.
These old tractors can still do the job but you will pull out some hair and cuss them for being a money pit at times,
but you can buy lots of parts for not very many payments and as long as you can do the work you'll come out ahead.
Unless you end up with spare tractors so you have one to use while repairing the others. :drink:

I do like the older tractors and I enjoy working on them just sucks when you need them and they are broke down my brother has a trailer mounted post driver and is driving me post Friday and I really need the tractor to stretch fence new Yorks not so far from west virginia if you wanna take a road trip haha

/ tractor wont start #38
Been down that way a few times, traveling to Virginia and North Carolina.
Yea, I used that to keep two tractors around for the driveway and yard, should always have one working that way.
But I've got a bit to do up here myself. They are putting in 2 miles of new fence on some rented ground on the farm this week.
I spent most of today smoothing out an 8 acre feed lot/pasture that cows pretty much destroyed, which happens most years.
Several hours at 1900-2000 rpm and 2 1/2 miles an hour, was going to do more tomarrow but it's raining now so that won't happen.
Got to help load about 20 head in the morning that are heading out.
