Reading these posts I only wish we were still allowed to burn wood or even build a new home with a wood burner!

No allowances for EPA certified models? They burn clean.

No... the goal is to eliminate wood heating... with few exceptions.

There is a bounty for removing wood fireplaces/stoves

We also have regional smoke police and billboards for anonymous reporting and roving patrols.

Here is the one page PDF

Ban on new construction wood heat

Remodels over 15k require REMOVAL of existing wood burning heat

Can't give away split and seasoned oak from storm damage... there was a time when friends and neighbors would gladly come to our property and take away any fallen oaks and most thankful at that.

California has been over ran with stupid.

Any politician that would try that here would be ran out of the state...

Reading that document it looks like a remodel requires an EPA stove/fireplace but not removal.
EPA stoves are cheap these days.

These regs apply to the Bay Area counties, not the entire state.

There's still people who heat with wood in the coastal mountains where I live. I've given away about seven cord's worth of Eucalyptus rounds and quarters this month. There's about three left and it looks like it'll all go. Having a tractor to load people's trailers has been a big help in getting it out.

We use to say that but overtime things change.

I thought it would be different in Washington State but have found it's not the case.

Any one remember when California started with emission controls and unleaded gas? Many of my car friends insisted it would NEVER happen in their state but here we are.

I do think it is a one size fits all and this is after attending public hearings on the subject... it was clear the intent is to eliminate wood as a source of heat no matter how clean...

They had floated a proposal that upon sale... any wood burning stove or fireplace must be removed... that one has not happened yet but they were successful in a 15k or more remodel does the same thing as far as fireplaces and pre-certification stoves.

Watch out for incrementalism or baby steps...

I really enjoyed turning fallen oak into firewood with my Kubota and Spitter... now it is left to rot of permitted but more often due to fire regs must be disposed of for a fee.

I posted the Bay Area link but here is a link in regards to other California Districts.

California Air District Website Links

My city has even stricter requirements than the regional Air District which is always looking to tighten standards.

Friends around your area (Davenport) heat only with wood but they are miles back on gravel and dirt roads... totally off grid but have landlines... crazy.

Just a pile of that normal split wood :). I am guessing 5-6 cord?
