That is probably just not going to be a problem. Thinking that a couple more horsepower is going to be the difference or edge you need just isn't going to surface in my opinion. The difference of working in tight areas and doing loader worker not to mention the super control with HST is worth a a few HP loss, in fact it's worth a whole bunch of HP loss. The HST on Kubotas is no question the best available of the three major brands with JD being second and NH a distant third. I have been trying different tractors as I am going to go smaller and the Kubotas are the smoothest all around. The NH would only be a consideration for me if I was going manual, they need work in the HST department. If your needs fit a GST, thats great, a nice transmission, I wouldn't talk you out of it, just hoping to make you aware that the HP loss will be not all so many folks in this forum chalk it up to be. Yes that is why i first got the HST. I local landscaper told me to buy hydro, he has all manual tractors and said he will have no more because to replace a clutch is $2500 each time and has gone through several. Today I went to the dealer and compared the two side by side. I first purchased the small 2910 to get around in tight places and so not to tear up good lawn to get to the bad area's to grade. I was suprised that in the rear the arms on the 2910 are small but near the same thickness. The 3010 is huge and would probably be best in open spaces but most of what i will be doing will be on delicate ball fields or grading around a house or building which the 2910 with HST looks best suited for..................Thanks.... I think i will stay with the 2910

KCH, that makes a lot of sense to me. While not familiar with a B2910, your decision makes sense to me. By the way, if you send a email to Harleyrakes, they will send you a video of the Power rakes they build and their abilities. Not trying to talk you into one, but at the very least, its interesting to see what it can do. Baseball field prep is one area it really shines. I have a Pro 8 Harley rake available to me and would surely like to consider a T-6 in the near future. Rat...

Thanks! I looked at the Harley rake web sight. I have heard nothing but good things about them with one exception, the price. I guess they are in thr 6-7 thousand range. The kubota dealer had a demo/rental T6 on the lot and wanted $5,700 for it and it was all rusted after sitting out all winter. The TR3 rake is 1/2 that price in the $3000 range which is high also. After looking at the web sight it does look like a fine machine!

Yeah, the price! Ouch. That is also though why getting jobs to use help pay for it are easier to get since so few have it. Someone mentioned for the price of the Harley, they could buy a backhoe. Problem with that train of thought is, backhoes are everywhere and obviously does an entirely different job. With so few power landscape rakes around and so many folks needing reseeding, land contouring, debris removal, road grading, etc., the Harley fills a real niche. Whatever your choice, you have a great machine! ...

It seems to me that landscaper sure is getting ripped on clutch replacements.
I just called my dealer for prices on a clutch.
Kioti DK 35 clutch disk (single stage, single disk clutch disk)=around $90
Clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw out bearing = around $300.(total $300 to replace my own clutch , pressure plate and throw out bearing).
Dealer installed with all of the above under $900.

Just got clutch prices for my JD 850.
Pressure plate $146,disc $209,throw out bearing $48,pilot bearing $15.
I can replace my own clutch in this tractor for $420.

It's almost all labor. Splitting a tractor takes a lot of labor. Check your local dealer for shop rates, my guess $50 to $60/hour at least. Parts are a small chunk of the cost. If you can do it yourself, you will save. My guess is most folks don't do it themselves especially when its for a business that can't take that kind of time to do it. Many of the JD's use a wet clutch system which is a little more involved. Rat...

P.S. don't forget to yank the flywheel and get it machined as well.

I work in conjunction with a large municipality and was in the garage bay the other day. One of the large mowing tractors was split in half for a clutch job and I asked the mechanic. Said it was about a 4 hour job. Should be able to do the whole job for under $1000. Don't know where the $2500 comes from. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
