Yeah, it is...that's why I like it.
No frills, just a great tool..what a real tractor should be. Why would you think we all want gussied up tractors?

And, no..Dan shouldn't lose his money...I agree with that. Maybe you should read the entire thread before responding, specifically the first page.

Dan's looking into replacing a tractor with defects. The real problem is the dealer doesn't seem to be responding. As Dan has a number of other tractors (older iron), he's not a novice...and is knowledgable enough to make a good decision.

I don't own a 790 but I do own a 1978 JD 950 and to put them side by side theyre basically the same tractor! the 950 seems to have more ground clearance, but the 790 weighs more. Both are 8x2 gear tranny's. I have no complaints about my tractor, its worked hard all its life and is still going strong. I feel the 790 will do the same. I need a good bit more hp, thats the only reason I've decided to step up to a 50hp+ tractor. I dont think you'll be the least bit dissapointed if you decide to get a 790(AKA old school 950):)

This is what the concrete in my barn looks like after every time I use the 2520. It even leaked a similar pool on my trailer the last time I returned it for service. I hauled it in the day I scheduled an appointment to talk with the dealership owner so he could see the problem first hand and left it there dipping on their floor.

I nearly went 790 when I bought the 2320--the 790 did not have a folding ROPS which was one of my deciding factors--also don't believe a mmm and 4WD combo are available with 790. The lack of gizmos still appeals to me though.

Good look with your decision--its a real @#(&* to spend so much money and the thing breaks.

Most likely what the problem is. The axal hub has a bad place in it. and is chewing up the seal. and the dealer just keeps replaceing the seal. witch in turn get chewed up again , and starts to leak. if the dealer will just replace the whole right side spendle. your problems would be over. :)
So the real trouble is not a tractor problem. it is a crappy dealer issue.this should of been fixed first day in. so the dealer is where the problem is. like i said. your just going to haft to climb the ladder screeming.
til the right people start to listen. and your tractor will be fixed right.;)
I hope you get everything worked out soon.

Chris..:)

Dan in Ohio, sorry to hear about your troubles, My 2520 sprung a hydraulic fluid leak after 20 hours, I have 40 on it now and it seems to be getting worse.

I hope I don't experience the troubles you are having. I really want to avoid a trip to the dealership if possible.

Wish you all the luck, hopefully they fix the problem for you.

OK guys,

I recently put a post in the "made in China on JD" thread and there's LOTs of chatter over there so now reading this post has me ready for a bit of a rant so strap yourselves in.

So every major company out there is buying food ingredients or tractor parts or doodads or whatever from someplace overseas. And then we buy this stuff ($100 cell phone or $16000 tractor or whatever) and it find out its low quality junk and say "Oh well" and throw it out and pay more $$$ to get another one. That's BS. I know the 790 is a good, rugged, reliable tractor, but Dan, you paid a lot of money for your 2520 with a full factory warranty. I'm sorry, but trading the 2520 for the 790 (in your situation) and possibly losing $$ is a dumb idea. I don't care about any stupid lemon laws.

There are only two possibilities, period:
1) Your dealer's service department is incompetent and has made the same screwup 3 times doing a simple repair.
OR
2) The "made wherever" axle housing has a casting defect and needs to be replaced entirely, meaning the whole darn thing.
I've been told many times that I'm laid back person, but after your second repair not working I would have been into that dealer, my neck veins popping out, demanding some action from somebody who can get that axle replaced. Another dealer in your area maybe? I have only had minor problems with my 2520 (nothing involving flooding my garage with fluids) and really love it (and my 455 too) but would honestly go to another brand if my JD service suddenly switched to being useless. My point here is that please don't let these machines become throw-away junk by accepting bad quality and bad service on top of it just because that's the way we expect it now in the "Global economy". I'm sure the local JD factory rep is eager to fix your 2520 axle problem. If not, we're certainly all doomed.
