Guys
Need advice. Own a 2008 T233 with 162 hours. Want a T293. Talked to my dealer about a trade. Just had our county fair where dealer had T293 on sale for 13900.00. I believe this price included the 3000 rebate TYM has on till the end of the month. When I asked about trading in my tractor the dealer told me the price ot the T293 was going to be 18800.00. Said because of trading in my tractor the sale price did not apply. We ran some quick numbers and was told the deal would be my tractor and 8000.00. Dealer said this included the 3000 rebate from TYM. They were giving me 10000 for my tractor. Numbers just dont seem right to me. Didnt ask for 10000 for my tractor nor do i expect to pay list for theirs. At these numbers really dont need a T293 that bad. Seems like the are doing the old car dealer trick of giving you more for your trade while charging you more for the new one. My numbers are this 18800.00-3000.00 rebate is 15800.00 for their T293. 10000.00 for my T233. Thats my tractor and 5800.00. Guess that why i am not in the business.

You are always in a lot better position to sell yours privately and buy outright. Ken Sweet

Out of curiosity, why go from a 233 to 293 instead of going bigger?

Have to agree with myyaz33. The 293's basically the same tractor with a few more horses.

Some will not like this, but it is a fact that the trade value greatly depends on the brand. I always plan to sell my tractor outright and shop cash prices for new tractors. Then, just to get an idea of the value, I ask them what they'd give on trade. By the time I take the savings in sales tax into the consideration, I've been far better off trading than selling outright. People can be upset all they want, but in 30 years of buying and selling tractors, this is indeed a fact of life. Sometimes the "far more expensive brands" end up being far less expensive over time. I've heard hundreds of people say that they'll never, never trade tractors so resale doesn't matter only to see them posting about wanting to upgrade tractors in a couple of years.

Looking at different sites, it looks like 4X4 TYM T233 tractors with similar hours and FEL's on them are selling for around $7k. The same machine without an FEL looks to be able to be had for just over $9k.

I just saw on Ebay a T233 with loader and backhoe with 85hrs for a BIN of $11,950. That seems like a pretty decent price.

I still wonder if going from a T233 to T293 would be worthwhile.

Guys,
Been on vacation sorry for slow responce. Wanted a T293 because the loader will handle a little more weight. Cant really use a much bigger machine. My main idea in trading was the new one is on sale and my tractor is in great shape. Around my area home owners are the most likely to buy a compact tractor. And alot of people including my self like a new one every couple of years. However my dealer is new to compact tractor market. He is used to farmers trading in worn out junk and not fairly new machines. I really dont want to have to try to sell my tractor outright. Dont want to deal with people nit picking and low balling. I will keep my machine for now. I am sure the next time TYM comes out with a good incentive my dealer will call me and see if we can work a deal. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but I just want to add if the dealer said the rebates do not apply on a trade he was either ill informed or he was simply trying to rip you off. I am a TYM dealer and on a cash or standard financing with a trade the rebates always apply. Basically I think the dealer was trying to steal your tractor. In my opinion he was going to take the rebate himself so that when he sold the tractor you were trading he would nearly double his money on it. Sorry please dont let that dealer make you think ill of the brand.
