Trail cam for driveway security

We use tactacam reveal to watch the driveway. They’re cellular and require a subscription, but it’s not terribly expensive. It takes about 4 minutes to get to the house from where we keep them and we get the pictures in about half that time. Certainly nice to have the warning when anyone is stopping by.

We use actual security cameras around the home where WiFi is available.

I couldn't find much information in my search. Do you have any advice on using a trail cam for home security, or would it be better to invest in a dedicated security camera? I'm looking for something that I can easily set up when I go on vacation and will alert my phone app to any activity.

Note this is a 4 year old thread, a lot has happened since then.

I must be missing something here. My idea of security and security cameras is that when something "bad" is seen - there will be somebody who can immediately intercept and put the "bad" down.

You have property and security cameras that are 50 or more miles from where you live and monitor the cameras.

What type of security do you expect under these conditions. COVID masks and blocked out license plates will bypass these security measures.

using a reconyx that will read a license plate in the dark, not cheap..

If you want cellular get a cheap no name brand PTZ solar cellular one from amazon. There about $80 and $120 for a years data plan.

If you dont want cellular get the cheap walmart brand Tasco cameras. About $30.

I have had many brands and theres not much difference in any of them vs Tasco at 1/3rd the price.

Spypoint cellular cams absolutely suck. I had 3 and all died after 1-2yrs due to water getting in.

Pictures from my $80 PtZ solar cellular camera. You can acess the live video any time, theres a light you can turn on and siren..you cant do this with even a $400 trail camera.
