if you want a narrow trail, you will need to get a pole saw. Either the cheap kind that uses large amounts of muscle or the good kind that has a chain saw on the end of the pole. Cutting back all the branches will make a 5' path feel larger.

I typically agree with Eddie on this one - plan on the path being 10-12 ft wide. Only the center 4-5 ft will be walkable due to branches and such.
