J.J.

Thanks for the info and the pics. You've given something to think about. I may go with a grapple on a bucket or I may get a separate grapple. That root and stump puller looked useful. Thanks for taking the time.

Dont know if this would fit your situation or not, but when i moved to my property back in 1996, i bought a used 28' Semi trailer. These things are redicously cheep. We got it for below $1,000, kept it and used it for 3 years and sold it for $1,200.

All i had to do was to pay a trucker to move it. The interior was 8' wide, 8 feet tall and 28 feet long, watertight with oak floor.

I just might have the right use for that. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks MossRoad. I've learned a lot from your website and postings. Can I ask a couple of questions related to your attachments? Have you done any dirt/gravel grading with your blade? How well does it cut and scrape? Can it do any light duty dozing? Also, I saw your grapple addition to the rock bucket. If instead of buying PT's grapple bucket, I had a shop fabricate a grapple add-on like yours that I could remove when desired, what would your ball-park guess be on what that might cost? Thanks!

No. I have not done any dirt or gravel grading with my snow blade. I do not think it would make a good dozer at all. I have done a LOT of ball diamond renovations with my buckets and I can tell you that the PT is not a dozer by any means. It is more of a material mover. I have had good success ripping up the ground with a plow share attached to a qucik attach plate then going back and scooping up the broken up earth with a bucket. The machine only weighs 1500 pounds and it doesn't have a low range transmission. Two reasons its not a good dozer.

As for my home made grapple, it ended up ripping out a section of the bucket. It was not reinforced enough to take the pressures of the hydraulic ram. Cost was not much because I used scraps and my time.

Having owned the PT425 for 10 years now, and used the large material bucket and the small toothed bucket and observed the projects of many TBN members with Power Tracs, I would recommend purchasing the grapple bucket with teeth from PT and also a large light material bucket. From what everyone says, the grapple bucket is the monkey's bannanas when it comes to versatility. It is a small bucket. It has teeth. It has a grapple. The grapple stays out of the way when not in use. The grapple acts like a backstop when pushing large piles of debris INTO places. The grapple can clamp down to secure things and drag them OUT of places. The teeth are pretty good at breaking up soil. The teeth are really good for pushing the bucket into piles of rock and gravel VS a straight lipped bucket. The teeth act to separate the rocks while a straight lip makes it harder to get that type of material into the bucket. The large bucket can move lots of loose material FAST.

So, if I had to do it over again, I would not have purchased my small bucket with teeth and I would have purchased the grapple bucket with teeth instead. I also would have purchased the tiller. That will bust up soil very fast and then you can scoop it out with the buckets.

If you need to grade a driveway regularly and things like that, perhaps you should look at their box blade. I don't have one for my PT, but I did have one for my old IH tractor. It did a great job leveling material.

MossRoad--

Thanks for taking the time to write all of that good advice. I'm trying to learn all I can.

After considering all the advice and the factors in my situation, I've pretty well decided to buy a new enclosed trailer, 7x16, dual axle, from the following source. I think it's a good price for the product:

Xtratufftrailers | Xtra Tuff Trailers

I have some other uses for this trailer and plan to buy it soon. My PT425 purchase is probably next summer. I plan to use a wheel lock, high quality padlocks, and massive anchor points for lock-down at my key locations.

Thanks to all for the help on this thread!

One more question: How long of a pickup bed is required to haul a 425 in it? I know a 425 is 90" long, but practically speaking, can you carry it in a shorter than 8 ft bed with the tailgate down? How short? A crew cab F150 has a 5.5 ft bed plus a 2 ft tailgate to extend it. Will that do if you tie it down well?

Looks to be a very good price... I paid more for the same size used...

I would discourage the idea of hauling your 425 in a truck for a couple of reasons, power vs speed to get up ramps into truck bed with attachment on, weight of pt will bend the tailgate upon loading, curousity of local law enforcement, wear and tear on truck axle bearings, storage of ramps during transport, etc. etc. loaded my 425 into f250 4x4 only a couple of times (8ft bed) one close call with a ramp that ''kicked out'' during loading justified a dedicated trailer for the pt. my trailer has a low deck height which allows me to load the pt without ramps (place bucket on trailer lift front wheels onto deck drive forward, rear wheels will climb onto trailer deck)
