When I built mine I welded the hangers to heavy angle. I botlted the angle to the channel face with a couple of grade 8, 1/2" bolts. This will allow for sliding the axle and redrilling the anchor holes if you need to adjust for tongue weight.

Why did you choose to mount the leaf springs below the axle?

It gives you a lower clearance to give ground. That way the trailer is lower all around and easier to load
