trailer hitch ball on drawbear or not??

I think you're right Roy, but the way the OP had worded his question made me think he was referring to the 3-point type drawbar. Without a shackle or ball to stop it, the chain will slide around from side to side as he mentioned.

Leave it to the tractor community to have the same term refer to two different items..

Clevis here, on the lower fixed Kubota provided drawbar.

A trailer ball sticks up and it gives a "bending" force to the drawbar and to itself, as it it only fastened to the drawbar with its own "bolt"
a clevis runs thru the drawbar with the "rod portion"and is fastened in 2 places on this rod, thus equalizing the pull forces, not trying to bend a thing that is fastened with only 1 thing. The clevis is inherently stronger to pull with. Will a trailer ball work. sure. and depending on the pull of the tractor and the immoveability of the object being pulled may never bend or give any trouble. but why take a chance? unless you need the trailer ball for moving trailers, and in that case I would think that one on a setup like Roy showed, would be more handy so that you can adjust the height from the seat with the 3pt. Just my 2 centavos.

Same here...

Something I bought last year is pretty handy:
3 POINT DRAWBAR HITCH For JOHN DEERE iMATCH Quick Hitch | eBay

That's a 2" and 1.875" ball as well as a pretty robust clevis. I use it for dragging felled trees and moving a small trailer around.
I would not use it for pulling a stump...the tractor's draw bar is stronger. That's when the clevis (TripleR's attached picture) is a better way to go.

Thats awesome:thumbsup: Might just have to get one of those..Thanks:thumbsup: My wife thanks ya too..

Ah ha. I wondered what he meant by that "slide around" comment. I could not picture it.

It's pretty nice and quite versatile. It would also be an easy thing to make, if you had the tools to do it (I do not).
As I'd written, it's good for trailers (obviously) and for dragging felled trees (use some common sense when dragging a tree with any 3PH device).
The one I linked to cost about $130. Do look around a bit as the one I bought was $85 for an almost identical item.

Good advice Roy... the biggest advantage a skidding winch gives you (aside from the winch, of course) is that the butt of the log should be tucked up behind the butt plate of the winch where it can't hook anything and flip the tractor.

You guys must all be pretty lucky.

Kubota did NOT provide me with a drawbar for my L3400. Allthough the bracket to recieve one is there. So I made one:thumbsup:

About the only thing I do with it now is use a clevis through it to tie my tractor to the trailer. I am guilty of using my 3PH reciever-type hitch for pulling logs. But I like to live dangerously. I am not reccomending that to a newbie.

The drawbar was supposed to be standard for L3400. I wonder if someone stole yours as it sat on the lot:shocked:?

Or the dealer pulled it to prevent theft (or replace one on another tractor).
This would be a good thing to ask your dealer.

Not sure that would work since I bought the tractor 5 years ago. And its not like I would use it anyway. It wouldnt be worth the $20 in fuel to fetch after it.
