Look, guys, the wheel idea is just not going to work. Just look at Sodos diagram. Even if you could put a wheel at the appropriate place, lift up the front end of the bridge with the tractor, and then push it down the slope to the creek, as soon as the wheel gets over the edge of the first bank it's going to drop down rapidly and the far end of the bridge will stick in the mud at the bottom of the opposite bank. Then what do you do?

I think Sodo's idea of logs is a much better idea.

What's with all the negative vibes? The far end of the bridge will be well over the far bank before the wheels roll over the bank. That is why all the discussion concerning how much of the lever I can but past the axle and still have enough weight on the other end to control the load.

The logs have the same issue, getting two heavy logs across the creek, in addition to obtaining said logs then moving several logs many times to relocate the flat rack so I would disagree they are a much better solution but certainly a solution.

Crane and operator will cost ~$1000 IF they can use their 60Ton crane, more if they have to go up a size. Still something to consider but where is the fun in discussing hiring someone else to do the work :)

Might see it there is someone local with an excavator big enough to pick it up and swing it across. Could be cheaper than a crane...

And since they would be bringing it on-site, have some other projects lined up for them, too, like stump removal, creek bank improvement, erosion control, big hole dug, etc.... Make it cost effective while they're there.

I agree. Get a big 300 sized excavator to drag it into place.

I agree, get a large sized track hoe to come in a set the bridge for you, no sweat for a machine like that. A crane for a $1000? I doubt it unless there happens to be one in the area looking for work.

Remember your 6,000 lb tractor "goes to waste" if you hire out, sort of a double loss. The Amish don't need no stinkin trackhoe. I like stories where you make do with whatcha got!

However ..... with a big trackhoe you could dig & set a couple abuttments of eco-blocks first; then place the bridge nice & level on the abuttments. Pretty straightforward to level a bed of crushed rock & tamp it with a big hoe then set the blocks. You can spend what you saved on the rack.

Any fool can blow money but it takes a special kind of fool to save money and add satisfaction at the same time. And this fool has more money for other projects. And satisfaction too, which is often the real goal. Hold my beer & watch this!

I think the project is doable as long as you take your time and think about what your doing before you get into it. Keeping the load under control will be the biggest thing in my mind but I like the approach so far!
