Trailer or FEL?

If it were me, and I had the luxury of having two tractors... I would go for the trailer... obviously one big enough to haul either unit, depending on the job at hand. Of course you could always bring one to the job site, and go back and get the other /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif - being the helpful guy you obviously are two tractors would be even more help!

Henro,

It's tough to make recommendations on "wants/nice to have(s)" ...nice to have a FEL on the BX... If you outlined a real "need" for one or the other, it would be much easier to make a recommendation.

Since this purchase will be a "nice to have", go with what your heart desires.

He already has one tractor with FEL.......so he NEEDS a trailer /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, my gut was saying trailer too...

But I have learned to value the wisdom of everyone here so much that I had to ask... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Guess I'm going trailer shopping next week...or later this week if the rain cooperates...want some as I put some grass seed down...

I am thinkng what I need is an 18 foot trailer, dual axles, ample D rings for tie down, duel brakes, 10,000 lb. rating (more than I need, but why not?) and I guess maybe those hinged loading ramps....provision for mounting two spare tires...

I have a E350 super duty Ford Van to pull it with...

If anyone has any other pointers regarding what I might buy please let me hear them!

Henro, this may be way to obvious, but you should sit down with your relatives and explain

Bob,

I hear you, and think that makes sense with brothers...but when it comes to kids...once they have flown from the nest, you start to think differently if you can afford it...

Not so much different than when they were little really, more give than take seems normal... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wouldn't want it any other way...

If for no other reason, being able to give means that there is ample for our needs too...no, ample is too big a word...sufficient...just enough...barely satisfactory... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm jumping in a little late on this one, but I definitely would go with the trailer. Since you don't have a truck, you can also use the trailer for things you can't haul in your van.

This is one of the issues that I've been wrestling with lately. When I buy my new car, I was thinking about keeping my Ranger for those few occasions when I need to haul things like lumber and mulch. I've already got a Ford van that I keep around for towing the tractors on the trailer, so counting my wife's car, I would be paying for license plates and insurance for five vehicles (two cars, truck, van, trailer). Now my current line of thinking when I get the new car is to get rid of the Ranger, and use the van and trailer combo more often.

But I digress...
The van/trailer combo seems to be the way to go, since you've alread got the FEL on one tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm coming in late as well, but my vote would be for the trailer. There's very little you can do with a FEL on your BX that you can't do with the FEL on your 2910 but there is no alternative in your arsenal if you need a trailer.

It's not like the trailer will be a one trick pony, either. As you said, you can use a trailer for things other than just hauling your tractors, too. So, for versatility in your overall operations, I'd say the trailer is the way to go.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think you've made the right decision, trailer. A trailer will change your life in some ways. When you do want to go somewhere, you'll just go instead of sitting around thinking, "How nice it would be if..." if you know what I mean, and I think you do. If you had no FEL, I'd say go for that, but your current FEL will be sufficient until you feel you have enough to spend for another one as a "nice to have." John

Yes, come to think of it there are times when a trailer would be nice...seems like a lot of times since I don't have a pick up... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Glad my passenger van has set mounts I can hook straps too...20' pipes in a 10 foot van... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Trailer. Wonder if the smaller FEL may be a disappointment to use if you are used to a larger one?

Incidently, the dealer delivered my tractor w/ bush hog on an old, beatup 16 ft tilt bed trailer. Despite its condition, was it easy to load/unload!
