Hi-I have a gn horse trailer, and bumper pull horse trailer, and googled to find out recommended tire rotation patterns that people use and found out that many on RV boards, etc, don't recommend rotation. Any thoughts from this site on whether rotation is advisable or should not be done?? Thanks. Bill

I rotate every year. I go right to left on even years and a X pattern on odd years. Easy to remember. I do the same on my vehicles. I change the oil on each every 5,000 miles so I use the 5,000's as odd and the 10,000's as even.

Most likely a good idea. But I never rotate mine. They all wear even so I don't bother. I don't think it would hurt. I guess it would depend on how many miles you pull also.

The whole point of rotating car/truck tires, as I understand it, is that steering tires wear differently than non-steering. Since a trailer doesn't have steering tires, it seems like they would wear more or less the same. Maybe a bit more on the inside or outside if your camber wasn't exactly right, but overall, the difference seems like it should be minimal.

Something else to consider, since most tires are now radials. Radials should not be rotated left to right or criss-cross because running in the opposite direction can delaminate the belts. At least that used to be the recommendation. I'd say unless you're seeing some uneven wear that could be cured by rotation, don't bother.

I agree, why bother. They will probably 'dry-rot' before the wear out.

I always have the trailer tires rotate in the direction I'm going. Keeps them from flat-spotting... :D

But when you are going 60mph, what about the part on the bottom of the tire going 0mph while the top part is going forward at 120mph? If you keep the brakes on, all parts of the tire will be going the same speed.

You guys may laugh at rotating trailer tires but I routinely see more wear on the left front tire on high use trailers like mine. The reason for this is most of us find it easier to maker left hand turns when able, especially the tight ones and this puts a beating on the front tire with layover.

i rotate on same side of trailer only. not a huge deal on my dual axle flat bed, just putting new tires on it now after almost 50K in the logbook.

On my tri-axle enclosed, i rotate after every trip, move back one and then back to front. i see a lot of inner/outer wear on the fronts and rears and cupping on the centers.
