Do you think a machine roughly the size of a Kubota L35 would work in a 6x12 "U-Dump" trailer? The hoe and/or the bucket would likely hang off both the front and the back of the trailer, but would it be too much and catch on the rear of the tow vehicle while making a sharp turn?

The weight isn't a factor, because the trailer will easily handle 7,000 lbs. I just don't want to have to buy a trailer to haul dirt and yet another one to haul the machine. Double-duty is what I'm looking for. I know it's going to be close, but is it possible for infrequent transport. Thoughts. .....

I will go against what I predict the majority to say here. Use a failsafe mechanical prop to guarantee the front loader won't drop and interfere with the tow vehicle. Demand the opportunity to load the tractor on the trailer before you buy. Flag the backhoe bucket and be sure you can use the hoe's boom lock when the machine is loaded on the trailer. I think it will work if you can get the tongue weight right.

Hi Jim,
I know in our state the law would not allow it . The buckets have to be secured to the bed of the trailer or in there own support racks . It takes 6 chains too even think about moving my tractor . One at each corner of the tractor and one over each bucket . It does not matter that I have boom and swing locks . I went with a 20' beaver tail 12000 pound trailer . It hauls everything at one time real nice . Check with your local Highway patrol BEFORE you try it .

Back it in & put the BH bucket on the tongue A frame.

I took a TLB to a shop 150 mi each way once with the loader bucket hanging off the back of a bobcat trailer behind the verticle ramps. Red flagged it & was not bothered. Might need lights at night.

I'm inclined to think it can be done, but in spite of the fact that I've had lots of experience pulling trailers, some overloaded, some that should have had brakes and didn't, etc., you're talking about doing something I wouldn't even attempt.

I guess you could make it work. But if anything would happen on the road I would think lawyers could be all over you and the police would be looking in the books to see if your illegal. Me, I wouldn't do it.

Jim, I once hauled my B21 on a 14’ trailer and it was tight. The loader bucket was over the front of the bed and the backhoe was hanging over the back. I don’t think I would try it on a 12’ trailer and you are looking at a longer TLB.

I sure would not risk the cash you paid for that machine on a trailer that is obviously too short & would think is not wide enough. My NH TC35D is 6 ft wide from back outside tires. (Turf tires a might wider than R4's)

Think of the investment your pulling & the price of a proper sized trailer becomes easier to handle.

As for myself, I would love to have a large trailer but can't justify the expense as I would only need to haul it for service work.

i have an 12k 18' trailer that i tow with a diesel dually and this is what i do with my case 530.

the tractor fits on the trailer, but the only way i can get the tongue weight right is with the front bucket over the bed.

so we made a mechanical prop, i don't think i have any pics

I have a Bri-Mar 18 ft, 12,000 lb and the 48 barely makes it on. In fact, it is longer than the trailer. I have to over shoot the tongue quite a bit and still the hoe sticks out over the end.. I understand that Bri-Mar has just come out with a 20 ft. This summer I will see how much difference they are and what I can get to trade in..
